Oh, and the aliens in Crysis, aside from all looking like the same model, looked like they came straight out of Duke Nukem 3D, except they weren't billboards... even with lots of texture filters you could see huge, ugly, disgusting texture pixels, unless it was the other 7/8 of the alien which was jet black and was more of a silhouette than a model... so if you saw any of that, that wasn't your hardware. ;)

An anonymous reader writes: In a blog post earlier today, Faling Leaf Systems released a prerelease of their DirectX 10 compatibility libraries for Windows XP. They're available here and includes a readme on how to install it and get the examples from the MS DirectX SDK. Looks like a sign of good things to come and it's finally likely that we won't have to upgrade to Vista just to play DX10 games when they start coming out.

I'm worried about my domain being blacklisted, and I'm annoyed by the bounces — I'm getting about 1000 bounce messages a day. Unfortunately, I give out a different email address to each site I visit: slashdot@example.com, paypal@example.com, amazon@example.com, etc., and the spammer is using a different address for each mail, so simple address filtering doesn't work.

What is the best way of avoiding being put on a blacklist, and dealing with the flood of bounces?

None of this makes sense to me:

If newspapers don't want to share their headlines and abstracts, stop publishing RSS feeds. Furthermore, if you don't want Google News to crawl your content, exclude them in your robots.txt file. Google News has no ads. It's just using freely available material to drive traffic and potential revenue to newspaper Web sites. This represents a business opportunity. Perhaps not seeing this is why the newspapers are failing. Republishing 80 pixel square photos with material from public RSS feeds is not the same thing as hosting episodes of TV shows on YouTube.

YouTube executives said they would not take down material that did not violate policies but would show authorities how to block individual items. YouTube's head of global communications, Julie Supan, said it would prefer Thailand to have the power to remove items rather than have the whole site blocked.
So what happens the "do no evil" ? Yes whilst YouTube/Google's offer of a masterclass on censorship is hardly doing the deed itself isn't it as bad: aiding , abetting & implicitly condoning ? At least in China the authorities asked them to do it, here they're volunteering.
