Get your head out of your ass. The Volt and Prius do just as well if not better than a standard car in a situation like you described. Either you have the gas or you don't just like in a non-hybrid. If you only put enough gas in your tank to make it through a couple days or wait untill it's empty to fill it back up you're in just as bad of a situation as a Volt owner who only has a 1/4 tank or less.

Besides, do you really think that Volt and Prius drivers only have one car?

Submission + - The Cuban Memory Stick Underground 2

circletimessquare writes: "The New York Times describes how hard it is in Cuba to get news that is not censored. Apparently students have taken to passing media around on memory sticks, as this is the only way they can get around state-controlled media. Also driving this phenomenon is the fact that there are so few places to get on the Internet: in Havana there is only one Internet cafe, down from three a few years ago. Ricardo, a 28 year old philosophy student, gets the memory sticks from European friends, since they are scarce to find in Cuba through normal channels. 'Like many young Cubans, Ricardo plays a game of cat and mouse with the authorities. He doubts that the government will ever let ordinary citizens have access to the Internet in their homes. "That's far too dangerous," he said. "Daddy State doesn't want you to get informed, so it preventively keeps you from surfing."'"

Submission + - Digital movies cost 429 times more to store (computerworld.com)

An anonymous reader writes: Fewer than half of all movies made prior to 1950 are around today due to film degradation issues. But, according to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the lifespan for digitally-recorded films could be even worse as storage for it costs $12,510 per year, compared with $1,059 for celluloid, and storing the outtakes and voice recordings cost up to 429 times more to store per year — $208,500 per year for digital materials vs. $486 for film. On top of that, motion pictures being recorded digitally today and not on celluloid film may not survive over time because of backward compatibility issues and digital degradation.

Sarah Silverman's Matt Damon Video *NSFW* Screenshot-sm 3

samzenpus writes "I find Sarah to be a hit-or-miss comic, often a miss but this pretty funny. It may not be the easiest way to break the news but at least there is no room for ambiguity. The best part has to be that Damon did it."
