Over 40,000 John Doe Copyright Troll Cases Dismissed 52

Requiem18th writes "From the EFF site: Thousands of unnamed 'John Does' in P2P file sharing lawsuits filed in California, Washington DC, Texas, and West Virginia have been severed, effectively dismissing over 40,000 defendants. The plaintiffs in these cases must now re-file against almost all of the Does individually rather than suing them en masse."

Despite the dismissal, EFF has received reports that some Does are still receiving notices from their ISPs informing them that their identities are being sought in relation to these cases. If you get one, contact the EFF immediately.

Firefox, for the first time, has the largest market share amongst browsers. From the post, "StatCounter is now reporting that Firefox 3.0 is the most popular browser in Europe--for the first time. Number one in Europe? That's a milestone, and a sign of very healthy browser competition in Europe. If the European Commission's recent efforts to force Microsoft to offer more browser choice in Windows succeed, Firefox may well stay number one." It is also interesting to note that Firefox has 100% market share on 1 continent — Antarctica! The article states, "I'm guessing the data comes from one user — and he's using Firefox."

Barence writes: "The Guardian Media group is asking the British Government to investigate Google News and other aggregators, claiming they reap the benefit of content from news sites without contributing anything towards their costs. The Guardian claims the old argument that "search engines and aggregators provide players like guardian.co.uk with traffic in return for the use of our content" doesn't hold water any more, and that it's "heavily skewed" in Google's favour. It wants the Government to explore new models that "require fair acknowledgement of the value that our content creates, both on our own site (through advertising) and 'at the edges' in the world of search and aggregation.""

I've went ahead and posted my CT scans and an xray (from 2006) to my blog and am soliciting the opinion of the Internet as to how I should interpret these results and what my next course of action should be.

I think that I am the first person to ever place their medical records and scans for the world to review. Is this the first instance of a communal diagnosis?"

So a news anchor has hacked Fark in an attempt to possibly steal source code for their own social networking site?

Lucas123 writes "An article in Computerworld states that Apple and LG each plan to launch new laptops — one that's supposed to ship this month — with hybrid disk drives. The new drives are like hybrid cars in that the NAND flash memory works in conjunction with the spinning disk, kicking in data that can be cached like portions of the operating system, which can make for much faster boot up and resume times."

The problem with listening to discussion forums is the people there represent what is called the "Vocal Minority." People with problems and complaints are more likely to be vocal about them than are people who are content with things the way they are. That is why you tend to see a lot more "BLIZ U SUC I QUIT!" posts than "This is the best game I have ever played please dont change anything." posts.
