Comment Here's an idea (Score 1) 208

How about making the company someplace where people would actually want to work? If you keep treating your people like "human resources" to be mined out and cast aside then fuck you you get exactly what you deserve, a bunch of devs just trying to do enough time in the salt mines to get themselves a job for a good company. I know the company were pioneers in the field of efficiently working people to death but they may want to finally change their Auschwitz approach.

Agile is a tool, it's good for things it's good for and bad for things it's not good for. How about letting the team select the methodology they think is appropriate to the task rather than letting a bunch of empty suits make the decision for the whole company?

Sony is a criminal company. No one innocent works for Sony.
Remember the root kit stuff, the payola shit numerous times, fucking artists every which way?
Innocent people don't contribute to that nonsense.
These leaks are still not spending Wikileaks money efficiently righting wrongs so it's a little douche baggy on their part without shedding any tears for the evil mega-corp.

Comment Re:Depends on what "delivered" means (Score 1, Interesting) 347

I always get my coder to give me an estimate and I keep track of both the agreed upon and expected delivery based off history.
I always negotiate any changes I make to anything with the coder IN WRITING as stated in the contract.
If I'm changing the spec the coder gets to change his estimate of both time and price.
As a result I make damn sure my spec almost never changes.
It incentivizes me to know what the hell I want and not turn into one of the shitheads I've done projects for.
My coders work with a contractual gun to their head in the form of penalties for failure to deliver. I'm not a complete ass about it but when they fail to deliver they lose a lot of power in the relationship.
I hold myself to the same standard and if I go changing the spec it's lots of extra time and money for the coder.

If you can't estimate a job then I don't want you anywhere near my business. I don't care if your code brings tears to QA's eye.

Comment Re:Greed kills. (Score 1) 532

Removing aggression without getting a handle on our propensity to greed would be victim blaming.

In capitalist societies we're supposed to honour and revere people who take advantage of other people for their own profit.
In reality our limited ability to stand up to this form of attack is the only thing preventing most of us from being complete slaves.
