Submission + - First Pictures and Specs of Commodore's New PCs

An anonymous reader writes: Following last week's announcement of the return of Commodore with a new line of gaming PCs comes the first specs and images of the new systems. The models, from entry-level to high-end, are the Commodore Cg, Cgs, Cgx, and Cxx. The initial hardware specifications for the 'extreme level' Cxx are as follows: Intel CoreT2 Extreme quad-core processor, an Asus P5N32-E nForce 680i SLI motherboard, two 150 GB 10,000 RPM SATA drives in RAID 0, with a spare 500GB 7,200 RPM SATA drive, 4GB (2 x 2048) Corsair Dominator memory at 1066 MHz, two nVidia 8800 GTX videocards, a Creatve Labs X-Fi, and Windows Vista Ultimate installed. Hell, it might even run Crysis.

While I am perhaps not the best person to talk about this as I've only had one submission accepted, my recent time spent with the Firehose has demonstrated to me that most people have a hard time crafting an acceptable story submission, in spite of the numerous examples on the front page. The following is just a list of hints and tips that might help someone assemble a story submission that makes sense.

An anonymous reader writes: A new form of propulsion could allow microrobots to explore human bodies. The technique allows the bots to be powered from a distance and has big advantages over alternatives, such as using ultrasound to induce pressure gradients or making the bots rocket-powered with hydrogen peroxide. One expert says "I wish I'd though of it first" — I know that feeling.

Using Google Earth to See Destruction 194

An anonymous reader writes "On Monday, an environmental advocacy group [Appalachian Voices] joined with Google to deliver a special interactive layer for Google Earth. This new layer will tell "the stories of over 470 mountains that have been destroyed from coal mining, and its impact on nearby ecosystems. Separately, the World Wildlife Fund has added the ability to visit its 150 project sites using Google Earth."

EFF Forces DMCA Abuser to Apologize 222

destinyland writes "The EFF just announced victory over a serial abuser of DMCA copyright notices. To set an example, their settlement required Michael Crook to record a video apology to the entire internet for interfering with free speech. He's also required to withdraw every bogus DMCA notice, and refrain from future bogus notices, never contest the original image again, and take a remedial class on copyright law. He'd attempted to use flaws in the DMCA to censor an embarrassing picture of himself that he just didn't want appearing online — but instead the whole thing backfired."
