Comment Mexico uses analog votes, still open to fraud (Score 1) 302

Democracy is dead. In today's world of overflowing money, the one with the largest pockets will win.

In Mexico, we claim to have an institution dedicated to fight Vote Fraud, but despite innumerable amounts of proof that PRI (Political Party) bought votes, and people purposedly miscounted votes, or nulled them, they've done absolutely nothing.

It doesn't matter the system, analog or digital. They (The ones with power) impose whoever they want. I've given up trying.

If you choose to use the GPL license for art, all further modifications to said art will be done under the GPL License.

If someone were to grab your modified art, they'd have to use the GPL License as well.

On the other hand, CC-By-SA Means that you can use it on a closed-source game, however the art being CC-By-SA Means that your assets (and any modifications you make to them) can be used by other game devs.

Nushio writes: "Continuing with the LPC coverage.. The Art Competition was recently finished, and the Code portion of the Liberated Pixel Cup has begun. There are some pretty awesome tilesets and assets available for Game Makers to use, and still plenty of time to make Free Software Games."

Submission + - VLC for Android Beta now available, unless you're North American (extremetech.com)

MrSeb writes: "The VideoLAN Project has pushed a beta version of VLC for Android to the Google Play Store. The beta brings most of the functionality of VLC for Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X to Android in a native UI in the Android 4.0 Holo style. However, there are a few hitches. The beta release published to the Google Play Store today is only compatible with ARM systems that use the ARMv7 architecture set and support the NEON instruction set. That means that there are several devices — mostly those released before the Samsung Galaxy S in late 2010, and anything powered by Tegra 2 — that cannot run the current beta. Also, apparently due to a lack of North America-specific Android test devices, VLC for Android is currently not available from the US or Canadian Play Store. Both problems should be rectified soon, though."

Just because the sprites are RPG style doesn't mean you have to write an RPG. You could easily make a TCG (I'm working on one), or a Shmup featuring dragons instead of ships and killing villagers, or a Tactical RPG, or a bomberman-like game.

Point is that the sprites are useful for a lot of genres, you just have to be creative.

Submission + - Apple, Google: Battle of the Cloud Maps (slashdot.org)

Nerval's Lobster writes: "Google has sent invitations for a June 6 event in which it will apparently unveil "The Next Dimension of Google Maps." Meanwhile, rumor suggests Apple is preparing its own mapping service for iOS devices. The escalating battle over maps demonstrates the importance of cloud apps to tech companies' larger strategies."

x0d writes: "Google Inc. said it filed an antitrust complaint Thursday in Europe
arguing that Microsoft Corp. MSFT -0.51% and Nokia Corp. are using proxy companies
to brandish patents and hurt the prospects of Google's Android mobile-phone software to the advantage of Microsoft's technology.
The Internet-search giant alleges that Microsoft and Nokia have entered into agreements that enable entities such as Canada-based Mosaid Technologies Inc. to legally enforce their patent rights and share the resulting revenue."

If anyone cares, I've started a Google Detox, and will slowly start quitting their services.

I wrote a bit about it on my site, http://k3rnel.net/2011/07/24/starting-the-google-detox-rsslounge/ and in fact have already quit G+ and Buzz and all (And gave them a link to this Slashdot post as the reason for doing so).

Leaving Gmail will be a gigantic pain in the ass, as most of my other online accounts link to that email address, but I'll get over it in the next few weeks.

Comment Greasemonkey (Score 1) 413

The popular Greasemonkey Firefox extension (Which I believe is built-in on Google Chrome) lets the end user modify the javascript/css running on the site to the user's desires. There's a huge database on UserScripts.org that lets you browse site-specific mods to Twitter, Facebook and yes, Gmail.

Another very popular extension is "Better GMail 2", which basically packages some greasemonkey scripts into a single extension.
