Journal Journal: The Club of Rome 2

The Club of Rome is a global think tank and centre of innovation and initiative. As a non-profit, non govermental organisation (NGO), it brings together scientists, economists, businessmen, international high civil servants, heads of state and former heads of state from all five continents who are convinced that the future of humankind is not determined once and for all and that each human being can contribute to the improvement of our societies.

Journal Journal: Quote: Discourse on Method 4

"It is useful to know something of the manners of different nations, that we may be enabled to form a more correct judgment regarding our own, and be prevented from thinking that everything contrary to our customs is ridiculous and irrational, -- a conclusion usually come to by those whose experience has been limited to their own country" (Descartes).

It's funny. Laugh.

Journal Journal: Quote: The Key to Failure

"I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody." (Cosby)

True story!

Journal Journal: Quote: Disgrace

"Being a father... I can't help feeling that, by comparison with being a mother, being a father is rather abstract business" (Coetzee).

J.M. Coetzee couldn't have written it better... in my experience, being a father is truly abstract business. Most of the time I feel like the Moon in orbit around the Sun (Mommy). Hmmm... I always thought it was supposed to be the other way around, at least that's what astrology and society tell us.

Journal Journal: Quote: The Apology of Socrates

"The wisest of you men is he who has realized, like Socrates, that in respect of wisdom he is really worthless." (Plato)

I feel strongly connected to this passage, firstly because I read, listen and recite its premise several times per day. In my own life I have experienced being puffed up in the glamour of discourse, my own and otherwise, only to beckon the wrath of The Abaser. As a result I've learned to quickly exhale when unjustly puffed.

I'm going to start regulary posting quotes from things I'm currently reading, mostly literature, however it could include a movie or song. I may even include a little blurb to get the comments started... that is if anyone finds the things I post interesting.

Databases

Journal Journal: Considering Going Back to Oracle...

After hearing NYUs plans to restructure the Applications Development Program in the Fall 2006, I was wondering if I should go back to Oracle. I have worked on a few Oracle projects and did some training for an Oracle Certification with a company called Smartechs.org but I didn't really dig the DBA-thing. Now that programming (Java, etc.) is looking bleek maybe I should think about bus

Education

Journal Journal: Y10.0702-001 Database Design

Well, this is probably the most boring class I will have this year... uh, well let me take that back. I had a VB class last semester. This course is basically about advanced Data-Modeling, and the principles of database designs for business. Also, the prof. assured us that the course would be universal so using MySQL or OpenOffice will be ok? I have no intention of installing Personal oracle or anything like that on my laptop... in fact OOo should work fine for this course right?

Journal Journal: KEEFA HALUK? ZEIN AL-HAMDULILLAH! 6

I'm sitting in the computer lab at Tisch Hall and I am just thinking, "Gee... I am paying a lot of money for this school. I hope it all pays off." But what if it doesn't, I have heard and seen so many people that go through college and have all the high ambitions then get out and end up in a sucky job that they hate and never really go where they want to in life. I'm not your ordinary college student, I'm not a kid, I am 29 years old with a

Star Wars Prequels

Journal Journal: Jar Jar: What Were They Thinking?

Recently, I read an article that is relatively old, however it had some striking points about Star Wars prequel's Jar Jar that I found interesting. When first introduced to Jar Jar in Episode I, I felt something strange and bothersome about him as a character... it wasn't hard to see through the alien's costuming and match certain resemblances. For example, Jar Jar's quirky english is very similar to West In

I have been listening to alot of arabic music lately. I know most of the people that may read this journal have never heard popular arabic music but it is really good stuff. My favorite artist is Samira Said, she is from Morocco and not only is she beautiful *whoa*, but her voice is like angelic, truly angelic. I love her voice... just remember check out Samira Said the next time you're in your local music store's world section.
