What you're talking about is: Where does experimental science (and the scientific theory) end and where does scientific philosophy begin?
That's a line that is hard to draw, and even more difficult to explain to those that aren't versed in research.

Backing down and admitting you're wrong when faced with evidence isn't bad for science, it IS science.

Not to the people who give out the grant money.

Just wait until the teachers start grading on a curve and a black kid suffers social consequences because he got an A with a 75% and a white kid got a C with a 75%. Or someone who applies to a job and a "Latino 4.0" is considered substandard to an "Asian 2.0" -- any way you slice it the implications of this are outrageous.

Think about it, you participate one weekend a month for sec training and preparedness drills, and take on a special project every once in a while, and get the military benefits without leaving your house. I'd be in for that, especially if it (being those projects) could be done as moonlighting outside my regular job. That doesn't sound so bad.

I use the uniball micro .2mm found here: http://www.staples.com/uni-ball-Roller-Pens-Micro-Point-Black-Dozen/product_132522
Staples' site says they're .5mm but they aren't -- if you go to the store you can see they're .2mm. They write well, no smudging (I'm left handed) and great detail for diagrams and such. Since their tips are like little razors don't expect them to write on things that aren't well padded paper -- they'll shred through newspaper, napkins, etc.

Comment Frustration and lack of patience (Score 1) 823

A lot of the nerd arrogance that I've seen comes from two categories:
1) Nerds tend to figure out/understand how things work and get easily frustrated by those who don't.
2) Nerds who act like that because that's how their nerd friends act.

Much of the time #1 can be rectified by people getting older, learning patience, understanding people better, etc. That takes time, practice, patience, and a willingness to explain things a few different ways when you're speaking to someone who doesn't understand you. Also, understanding that people don't all think the same is a big revelation to a lot of nerds (and most of the time comes in their late twenties)

Most of the time #2 is solved by hanging out with different people, growing up, and having a little more self confidence.

What if nVidia challenged this with exactly the same arguments that Google used with Dalvik.

It won't happen because it's not worth their effort. If I can get 95% of the market with 50% of the effort, that sounds like a good business decision to me.

I read TFA, posted a reaction, and whether the paywall has been removed had no bearing on my posting, merely that a paywall existed at all.

So calm down, don't jump to conclusions, and stick to a productive discussion rather than being an armchair quarterback.
