Submission + - Castro gets Ubuntu Award (not the Linux one) (politicsweb.co.za)

xzvf writes: Fidel Castro has been awarded the Ubuntu award for being a humanitarian. I find it strange that the dictator of a country that brutally oppresses its citizens and acted at a Soviet proxy sending troops to fight in Angola, is listed as a humanitarian. What the award is about: "The Ubuntu Award is honouring persons who have consistently lived the humanitarian values of the African philosophy of Ubuntu. The first and second awards of this campaign that revive values of humanity were received by Nelson Mandela and Kenneth Kaunda in 2006 and 2007 respectively." (www.politicsweb.co.za) What effect will this have on Ubuntu's brand name?

Submission + - SCO shill has remorse.

xzvf writes: SCO shill Dan Lyons of Forbes has remorse for backing doomed company. To quote "The truth, as is often the case, is far less exciting than the conspiracy theorists would like to believe. It is simply this: I got it wrong. The nerds got it right." http://www.forbes.com/technology/2007/09/19/software-linux-lawsuits-tech-oped-cx_dl_0919lyons.html Judge for yourself if the retraction is genuine.

BusinessWeek http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnflash/conten t/jun2007/db20070620_915353.htm?chan=top+news_top+ news+index_top+story proposed it and I tend to agree even through it might add competition for the jobs for which I apply.

Submission + - H1B Restrictions Top 10 US Economic Blunder

xzvf writes: BusinessWeek is claiming that restricting H1B visas is a top 10 US economic blunder.

From the slide show:
Under congressional legislation, the cap on H-1B visas for skilled foreign workers fell by two-thirds, to just 65,000 a year, leaving companies starved for talent at a time when Congress was refusing to supply enough green cards to meet the demand for both skilled and unskilled workers.
