Submission + - 3D Realms Shut Down

pcgabe writes: On 1up there is a disappointing story about 3D Realms. Both Shacknews and The Escapist are reporting that 3D Realms has shut down. Apogee Software and Deep Silver have issued a statement confirming that the situation at 3D Realms has not affected the development of the upcoming handheld Duke Nukem Trilogy. There has been no word on the fate of the infamously delayed Duke Nukem Forever.

Facebook Cuts Off Pirate Bay Links 137

narramissic writes "Citing legal reasons, Facebook has ended its brief relationship with The Pirate Bay. The Pirate Bay added a 'Share on Facebook' button around two weeks ago to its site that allowed its users to post links to small information files on Facebook that are used to download audio, video, etc. via BitTorrent. Facebook is now blocking those 'bookmarklets' as well as any links from The Pirate Bay, said Peter Sunde, of The Pirate Bay. Sunde said he received an e-mail from Facebook justifying the action because of the legal proceedings against Sunde and three others. The men are awaiting return of a verdict on April 17 from a trial that concluded early last month in Stockholm. They are charged with helping to make available material under copyright."

Boxee Drops Hulu Support 375

frdmfghtr writes "According to a boxee blog entry, Hulu will no longer be supported. From the post: 'two weeks ago Hulu called and told us their content partners were asking them to remove Hulu from boxee. we tried (many times) to plead the case for keeping Hulu on boxee, but on Friday of this week, in good faith, we will be removing it. you can see their blog post about the issues they are facing.' Reading the hulu blog post, the only 'issue' I see facing Hulu is that content providers have (once again) shot themselves in the foot, switching off a media conduit they should have been promoting." Update: 02/19 14:31 GMT by T : Jamie points out this interesting (speculative) piece at O'Reilly Radar about the thought process that may have driven the decision.

Submission + - OK, I admit it, Leopard has more "Wow!" th (zdnet.com)

A. N. Other writes: This has got to be what Steve Jobs and the gang from Cupertino were hoping for — A hardened Windows user who is dissapointed by Vista is WOWed by the new features contained in Mac OS X Leopard.

"Browsing through the 300+ new feature (well, OK, let's first admit that "new features" is marketing hyperbole, some of the features have just been re-tweaked and modified a little) I have to admit that I went "Wow!" more than once. In fact, I might as well come clean and admit that Leopard looks like it beats Vista in the "Wow!" department."

The piece goes on ...

"I've limited myself to ten features here but I could have easily picked a couple of dozen more features that sound interesting and useful and that made me utter a low "Wow!" It seems that being in a distant second place in the OS market is actually making Apple work hard to come up with new ideas and innovative features."
