Maybe you need to upgrade your hardware once in a while, as ALL of the choices above (except Unity - never tried it, that I can recall) seem reasonably fast to me. That, or you are a very, very impatient person.

Before Gnome 3, I preferred Gnome. MATE is okay, but I have moved on. Now it is definitely Cinnamon for me, as I refuse to use Gnome 3. I will admit that I've only really used it on Mint and Mint Debian, but those are the only systems I use much anymore, aside from when I am forced to use Windows at work. KDE has always seemed bulky and is just not intuitive to me, though I take each major new version for a spin because it always looks so nice.

XFCE and LXDE are both worthy competitors (or were, the last time I checked), but a little plain and barebones for my liking.

Yes, BeOS was interesting... like 15 years ago. Today, not so much. And by not so much I mean, "People actually use Haiku? Who? And WHY?" I could do most of what I need to do today on WIndows 3.11, but that doesn't mean it would be a good idea.

Old and uneducated people who think Internet Explorer *is* the internet and have always had it set as their default search engine since they bought their current computer and don't realize that there is any alternative. That's it, no one really uses it by choice. I hear it works well for funny cat videos and finding out what time the local pharmacy opens.

Excellent point. So don't just blame Google when it fails you. Blame your crappy business model that puts too many eggs in too few baskets, and the advertisers that account for Google's revenue. Google can be an incredible resource and a traffic and revenue generator for you, but you can't just do whatever you want, refuse to adapt, and expect to cash in forever.

If you really do put people in fully autonomous cars, will they ever get where they want to go? Where will cars go if they are fully autonomous? Will they choose to go anywhere, or just rest a lot? I'd prefer an "automatic" car, that goes wherever I tell it to without me having to drive it.

Ep. II was one of three movies I literally fell asleep in the middle of, and I consider myself a big Star Wars fan. The other were Fantasia (I was very young and tired, and it has some slow parts), and Sense and Sensibility (chick flick, and one of the most boring movies ever made).
