Why is it sad that you found him? I would be joyous at having found and stopped such a person. That he committed suicide is his own doing and really shouldn't bear on your own happiness. In fact, when such people commit suicide, deep down I feel happy that they didn't drag their victims through the legal system nor waste even more of society's resources and time.

Submission + - Changing Linux Distro On A Remote Box only via SSH (goudkov.com)

bcc123 writes: "Why would you ever need to do something like that?

Well, a lot of hosting companies offer only the software configuration of their choice. On top of that, most of them would not agree to send someone to the datacenter to be on the phone with you while inserting/changing CDs to help you install a distro of your choice.

It's easier to completely switch a linux distribution if the original configuration includes a swap partition. That partition can be reformatted to contain a fully-working system. Then, it can be used for booting up to let you free up the main partition(s).

But if there is no "spare" partition for you to use, of if it's too small for you to be comfortable in the future, or if you want to completely change the partition table, then here is how to do it."

Submission + - Doctor Who goes on hiatus for a year (bbc.co.uk)

BigBadBus writes: "Looks like Dr.Who fans will have to go without their hero in 2009 after the BBC revealed the Time Lord will take a gap year. Might be a good idea considering the unpopular choice of Catherine Tate as the new companion. However, to please die-hard Whovians, there will be three specials in 2009."

Feed Science Daily: New Molecular Regulators Of Hyperthyroidism And Goiter (sciencedaily.com)

Thyroid gland function is regulated by the hormone TSH. Increased levels of TSH and increased signaling through its receptor cause hyperthyroidism and goiter. Signals downstream of the receptor for TSH were thought to be mediated mainly by the Gs protein complex. A new study now indicates that in mice Gq/G11-mediated signaling has an essential role in transmitting TSH-induced signals. This makes Gq and G11 potential new targets for the treatment of hyperthyroidism and goiter.
