Comment Thanks Apple (Score 4, Interesting) 308

If you hadn't made such a fuss about the Samsung Tabs they would not be so popular today, Here in Australia they are very hard to find, you have to pre-order it while the ipads sit in the shops. I am not suggesting that they are outselling the ipad, but there is a real demand which, in part, has been created by the market leader. What a weird world we are in today!

I have an office application on my phone, I forget what it is but I can open Excel an Word files in it. Maybe not as well as MS office but that even depends on the version you have compared to the document author.

The idea is awesome, all my info on my phone easy to access and work with on the go. It is not going to replace laptops but it is going to dent netbooks.

I work in the advertising industry and it is outrageous how far people can go to abuse others. It isn't free to make all those good tv shows and in my opinion authors should get paid for them. Mostly this is based on advertising on TV. If you don't want advertising, go buy the DVD boxes which don't have them. But have some decency and let people get paid for their hard work. Dish Network is bunch of assholes.

Fine but don't then fill the DVD's with crap about piracy and advertising other shows, I just bought them to avoid getting the actual show I want to see in an uninterrupted format, let me have it!

Comment Debian + motion + wput (Score 1) 508

I know this is coming late but a standard Debian install with motion and wput installled uses any USB webcamera to record video on motion detection and the upload the best image (or images) to an FTP server. So you can get local video and also back up images offsite. It is so cheap you can have several of these working independently. I used this system to monitor landlord movement at my last place and got most of the place covered with a laptop and a netbook.
