Submission + - Spore, Mass Effect PC to Phone Home Every 10 Days

Mr2001 writes: Shacknews is reporting that the PC port of Mass Effect, and the long-awaited Spore, will use SecuROM copy protection and require online validation every 10 days. BioWare's forums are full of angry responses from the community. Looks like this might end up hurting their bottom line, as thousands of gamers decide to wait for a cracked version instead of buying the game and having to install SecuROM, which has caused problems in the past. When will companies like EA (which owns BioWare) realize that they need to make legitimate copies better than pirated ones, not worse?

Submission + - Comcast Claims They'll Stop BitTorrent Throttling (dslreports.com) 1

Mr2001 writes: "BroadbandReports reports that Comcast and BitTorrent Thursday morning jointly announced that by the end of this year, Comcast will migrate 'to a capacity management technique that is protocol agnostic.' In other words, it appears that after months of public outcry, bad press, hearings and an FCC investigation — Comcast is ready to abandon its practice of forging TCP packets to throttle upstream P2P traffic on its network."
