Comment Re:Getting attention at the expense of 3D printing (Score 3, Interesting) 207

I wish I had not just spent my last mod points. If someone is stupid enough to try and make a 3d printed gun (a opposed to machining one out of metal, as suggested below) let them blow themselves up. A gun is simple to make, Kirk made one from some bamboo, rocks and minerals...

But I absolutely, totally LOVE depth of field. Screw the art school graduates. I bought a large screen digital tv for the illusion of a window upon the world.

I would like to think -- I sincerely HOPE -- that artificially inducing audience "focus" by depth of field will be as quaint as silent movie captions in 50 years.

I had a good run of several hundred years though...

Widely known where? Round these parts it's a 90 or a 105, assuming you're talking 35mm film.

I think the poster was talking crop sensor cameras, where a 50mm produces the same size image as a 75mm on a full frame (35mm) camera. On a side note, I never got the 50mm hysteria. I always found it either too long or too short when used with 35mm. It was a nice wide angle focal length on 4x5 though...

I once worked in a sign shop and we had a poster with thousands of fonts. Admittedly we did not use many of them, but occasionally one of the esoteric ones would be perfect for a job. These fonts, as well as being mathematical curiosities could be used for specific circumstances.

Submission + - Who to replace DynDNS (dyncommunity.com) 1

graphius writes: I have used Dyn.com for many years to maintain easy access to my home server* Now DynDNS is ending their free service. $25 per year is very cheap, but all I need is one host name for my dynamic IP. What do other slashdotters use? or should I just upgrade to an overkill pro account?

*I use my home server for a personal egroupware install (calendar, file manager, to do list, etc) as well as a test server for tweaking websites.
