Hi!
As you know, like many other projects the Android Open-Source Project was
affected by the recent kernel.org downtime. So, we’re pleased to let you
know that the Gingerbread source code is now available again, and AOSP git
servers are back online.
Even before the kernel.org downtime, it was clear that AOSP was sometimes
taxing kernel.org’s git infrastructure. When we did the Gingerbread source
release, for example, load due to AOSP made part of kernel.org unusable for
several days. This isn’t fair to kernel.org’s staff or the community, so for
some time we’ve been preparing our own git hosting on Google servers.
We were finishing up just as kernel.org experienced their downtime, so the
Gingerbread source is now available on Google’s servers. Accordingly, the
git URLs have changed.
Here are the instructions to access the new git servers:
- You need to get the latest version of the repo tool:
curl https://dl-ssl.google.com/dl/googlesource/git-repo/repo > ~/bin/repo
- You need to initialize a new repository:
repo init -u https://android.googlesource.com/platform/manifest -b
android-2.3.7_r1
- The full instructions are at
http://source.android.com/source/downloading.html
There are a few limitations to be aware of:
- Our priority has been getting the main source code mirrors back online,
so for the moment gitweb source browsing and Gerrit Code Review are still
unavailable.
- We are now working on bringing AOSP’s Gerrit Code Review site back up,
and hope to be able to say something here soon.
- It might be a little while longer before gitweb comes back,
unfortunately, since Gerrit Code Review is the next priority.
- To reiterate, these servers contain only the ‘gingerbread’ and ‘master’
branches from the old AOSP servers. We plan to release the source for the
recently-announced Ice Cream Sandwich soon, once it’s available on devices.
- As these new servers are, well, new, there may be hiccups if we
encounter unexpected issues. However we’re keeping a close eye on them and
will respond to any issues as quickly as possible.
Finally, we’d like to send a huge “thank-you” to the kernel.org community
and Oregon State University Open-Source Lab staff. They’ve done an
incredible job hosting the AOSP source code mirror and Gerrit Code Review
for nearly 3 years. Without them, it’s safe to say that AOSP would not be
where we are today.
Thanks, and happy coding!
- Dan
Yeah, Drill and then after you've drilled it power it up and make the platter spin up and scratch the living fuck out of what wasn't drilled.
I think I'll be happy with this change... the tab centred url bar is a very good idea.
I do hope you all don't think this way.
Don't be fooled by the Faux News view of China.
One day you'll wake up and it'll be too late to do anything about their world markets domination.
Since Tribes I haven't been able to stomach multiplayer games online. My entire gaming life almost exclusively exists in single player mode. Just because EA cant be bothered funding decent AI and single player game player doesn't mean the rest of the world wont/cant.
If they persists in dumping out crap for the masses I'm sure the indie and open source gaming industry will harvest my money just as quickly.
My 2yr old LOVES his ipad.
And the rate of which I've seen him learn new skills with it then further refine those skills is amazing.
There are heaps of good free and pay for games and learning tools for them.
The thing is marketed wrong, it should be aimed at toddlers and preschoolers.
I bought from Dick Smiths in Perth CBD, the kid asked if I wanted to buy a cover or extended warrenty. I said no and he was fine with that.
Sounds like JB Hi-Fi being dishonest scum bags to me.
I'm in Australia with a Telstra BB, but can you install Google app ?
That will give you Google search.

You foul their props at 400m, they'll punch a hole in the side of your cargo vessel with an RPG at 400m easy as pie
What a shame.. I make a point of buying only Linux native games.
But they should understand this.. it wont stop me playing the game. If they would like to turn a profit from me, then Linux port it.
so what do you think they'll say when I say I do it deliberately ?
I don't mind sharing my wifi with complete strangers. I restrict it to make sure they can't cost me too much and everything I do on it is encrypted via VPN so - meh!
Seriously... it's completely useless for someone in Western Australia.
Google is a powerful tool that I've found manages to index Microsoft own support site better than Bing does.
From my perspective they've done little more than join a bunch of poor performing search engines together and given it a New Yorker sounding name.
Lipstick on a Pig.
***Would someone please enlighten me - what is the rationale behind making platform-exclusive games? Isn't it logical to think that they'd make more money did they release the game for multiple platforms? Or do they just expect that everyone has every console out there plus a PC?***
Yeah, Sony benefit solely from the game if it's popular.
Sony make money from the sale of the game, sale of the licence and sale of the consoles... if it's _really_ popular then it'll encourage the sale of more of their consoles thereby acting as a multiplier of their other games.
The developers get lower cost of coding benefits and they'll be paid a kickback from Sony for being exclusive.
The end users get no real benefit.
You will have many recoverable tape errors.
