You've missed the point. None of those things allow someone to know exactly where someone is located in real time. If a school administrator fancies one of the students, this system enables knowing exactly where a student is and if any other students are nearby. And then what happens when students start building readers. This goes downhill quickly.

You must be British or something, but you have it wrong. School is mandatory to 16 years of age as a minimum while some states including Texas are at 18. The one part that does fit your argument is that because it's a magnet school it's not the standard public school and she always has the option to attend there instead. However, the badges are likely to turn up there as well once the pilot program ends.

No, we don't need those data centers today. We don't need near instant access to caturday videos. The amount of reactionary nonsense here is depressing. If the article placed blame on anyone, it's users demanding unnecessary access to meaningless data. They did an excellent job of explaining how data centers get to be energy hogs and frankly this article could be the catalyst that convinces CIOs to move to virtualized data centers rather than the one server one application wastefulness that many places still employ today. Better tech is around the corner and this is how we shift thinking.

What do you think the last mile people have to do with this? Cable companies have no love of bundling. They have to do it or they lose large swathes of content. If you're like me and won't pay for a cable subscription just to watch Game of Thrones blame Time-Warner, owners of HBO, and the people that ensure you are paying a cable company for all their other channels before you get HBO.
