Submission + - President Obama to appear on Mythbusters (discovery.com) 2

Muondecay writes: President Obama will be featured in the December 8th MythBusters episode, "Archimedes Solar Ray," during which he will challenge Adam and Jamie to revisit an ancient and somewhat controversial myth: Did Greek scientist and polymath Archimedes set fire to an invading Roman fleet using only mirrors and the reflected rays of the sun during the Siege of Syracuse? This is part of a White House effort to highlight the importance of science education.

You will have paid for newspapers, like the financial times, that contain news worth paying a premium for, which they won't publish online.

There was an article 2 days ago about how FT "sees a five-year trajectory for having exited print in substantial part."

However, in another article yesterday another spokesperson say they have no plans to scale back printing and go all digital.

I took a cab from Manhattan to JFK yesterday. There was one sticker in the cab stating that there's a flat fare from JFK to Manhattan, and another saying it's a flat fare either directon. Both stickers looked official to me as an out-of-towner.

The doorman at the hotel was sure it was a flat fare in one direction only. So what do you have to show for it if the taxi driver insists it isn't a flat fare?

The taxi driver kept the meter on until we reached Queens, then turned it off and complained about how he was losing money because of the heavy traffic and the flat fare, i.e. he could have been making more money if he had sticked to Manhattan rides during rush hour. I think he was just trying to score more tips. And it worked, poor guy.

There have been controversial winners throughout the peace prize's history. Sometimes the prize goes to people who have waged war at some point, other times to people who have done something that most people don't think of as peace related.

No need to discuss if Obama actually deserved the prize, but I think a lot of people here in Norway believe he was awarded the prize because the leader of the comittee, Torbjørn Jagland, wanted to bring about a lot of attention to himself (and Norway).

There's no way that a pigment can cost thousands of dollars per liter.

That's simply not true.

The cyan cartridge is filled with pigments gathered from the beak of the endangered Taiwula bird, only found in altitudes of around 7.000 meters in the Nepalese mountains.

And that "photo grey" cartridge is made with moon dust. Not that moon, but one of Pluto's.
