Submission + - Did 80legs.com kill your site last night? (80legs.com)

bofar writes: "We started getting Nagios alerts from overloaded servers around 3:30 AM PDST today. This went on for about three hours. Digging through the access logs this morning, we found the unusual request load's uagents all had 80legs in them. A friend of our who runs a private site reports the same problem. Is anyone else seeing problems due to the 80legs spider?"

Submission + - The Planet Gets Worse

bofar writes: The Planet just merged with SoftLayer. Slow service gets even slower and more bureaucratic. We had a system fail due a disk problem last night. Here are the ticket comments,

Me: 11/18/2010 11:09:25 PM The filesystem is corrupted on pweb03.... Please run diagnostics on the disk and replace it if it is bad. Feel free to destroy any data on the disk, but reload Centos when you are done.

Planet: 11/18/2010 11:19:33 PM I am looking into this for you. Thank you for choosing SoftLayer,

Planet: 11/19/2010 12:09:06 AM I'm forwarding this to our datacenter for further investigation. I am unable to access the server. Thank you for choosing SoftLayer

Planet: 11/19/2010 12:51:08 AM Softlayer requires your approval of a designated time before the specified work can be performed. Please allow a 4 hour window so that we have ample time to address issues as they arise.

Love the Amazon review, "My initial inclination is to say that this book is worthless. Given that I spent $35 on it, it's worse that worthless. At around 100 pages in length, the first 40 are dedicated toward understanding what a network is, a general overview of RRD and Cacti and a very poorly written install guide...."
