Or perhaps roblarky could be more vague. Perhaps you could divine what he means by, "many".
You seem to imply that some preternaturally clever IT dept could make the right decision at every stage, and never be forced to do the dumb things the non-technical managers (business owners) always insist upon and never have to deal with ancient, legacy crap.
Universities, not University's. And it should not be capitalized. Also it should be 90s or nineties.
The apostrophe is about possession. "The fish's bicycle ran over the dog's tail."
So eastern Oklahoma is random and CA is "real?" I'm not a lawyer and I don't play one on TV but seriously, you're an insensitive clod.
Just kidding. Heh.
Managers (all the ones I have had in recent years) are not ready for Linux on my desktop. Of course even when you are supporting nothing but Linux servers in your role, they insist you will not be able to connect to the fucking Exchange server. I have had jobs where the employer did not use Exchange and I was able to use Linux on my desktop.
This keeps happening to me everywhere I work. I get handed a new Dell laptop with an incomplete or broken install of WinXP on it and am told to download putty. My last boss wanted me to test VMware Linux machines on this Dell XP box. It was fun watching the thing crash on a daily basis. Usually it happened at the worst possible moment.
Honestly, I don't see how a real Linux person can work with that setup. I sure can't. Last month I bought myself a MacBook Pro so the boss' fear of me having Exchange issues went away.
You expect computer people to know the difference between "your" and "you're?" Hah!
Good luck with that. Most of the people I have worked with over ten years refuse to spell correctly or use proper grammar. If being literate was a requirement for employment, that could change.
I was in this situation once and I flatly refused to install the unlicensed software.
If you have mentioned the issue to management, they already see you as someone they can't trust.
You may as well report them to https://reporting.bsa.org/usa/home.aspx or the like, because your days are numbered at this company.
Congrats on converting ppl from Windows to Linux. I have never been able to accomplish this except with a friend and one family member. Linux on the desktop a tough sell, in my experience. Perhaps it's a little easier now than when I was trying to do it a few years ago.
Well, they do get -some- bad press occasionally but in general the mainstream media faun over MSFT constantly. The freakin BBC aired an interview with Ballmer recently where they asked him all sorts of questions about the world economy! WTF? Does Ballmer have a degree in economics? Does he have a crystal ball? And if he did know something we don't about the economy, would he really share it freely? Really?
