Submission + - Which all-in-one inkjet printer is cheapest to use

Ray writes: "A year or so ago I got my dad a new computer system that included a Canon PX-160 printer/scanner/copier to replace his aging Lexmark with similar capabilities. On my next visit I asked him how the new printer was working and he said the ink was killing him. The cartridges are expensive, they don't have much ink in them and there are no third party or refilled carts for it or apparently any other Canon. It looks like HP and Lexmark are the most likely to have (relatively) inexpensive supplies but what has your experience been with inkjet all-in-ones as far as TCO goes?"

Submission + - Creative works killed by copyright laws (deathbycopyright.ca)

An anonymous reader writes: Did you ever think you would live in a world where there would be illegal knowledge and culture? Where powerful corporations could dictate what music you could listen to or what books you could read? Where those same unaccountable corporations could dictate what kind of art could be produced in the first place? It might surprise you to learn that you are already living in such a world. With only some exceptions, everything on this site violates copyright laws. However, if you do look at it, you just might ask yourself why this should be, and you may wonder how our individual rights have been jeopardized, and may be jeopardized further with the invocation of even more draconian Intellectual Monopoly (property) laws. A day after Michael Geist talks about Dealing with Unlawful Content, now the question is how do you deal with Unlawful Content that shouldn't be unlawful?

Submission + - Sony upset church by using cathedral in game

clickclickdrone writes: "Sony have fallen foul of the Church of England by using detailed images and interiors of Manchester Cathedral without their consent. The CofE claim Sony have used the images in the violent game "Resistance: Fall of Man" without their permission although Sony say all neccessary permissions were sought and granted. You can read more at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/manchester/6739 575.stm
Whilst the Church's lists of things it wants Sony to do to make up for the alleged error does smack slightly of cashing in on events, it does serve to highlight the issues involved with the increasing use of detailed real world places in games. Photographers have to be careful selling photos of certain buildings whose owners have copyrighted the image such as the Millenium Wheel in London so do game's publishers who feature well known cities and landmarks also need to be more careful, especially when multiple agencies may have an interest in certain places and how they are presented to the public?"

Submission + - Mistaken YouTube takedown of national TV reporter

parodyca writes: David Akin is a national TV reporter for CTV in Canada. Youtube recently took down his home video of his trip to Vimy Ridge (A Canadian national monument) in France. His video was here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71fBv-U-6b8 and was ordered down via DMCA by a law firm called Holland & Hart LLP. But from Akins description there is nothing possibly infringing in the video. By strange coincidence another video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71fBv-U-6b9 was also ordered down by the same law firm. Is this another example of the consequences of not having any accountability for these takedown notices? Having now happen to a national TV reporter with the DMCA get the bad press it so richly deserves?
