Comment Re:Comcast is blocking access to wikileaks (Score 1) 715

This was meant to be sarcastic.

My point was that although on the fringes, (mastercard, paypal, amazon, DNS, legal trouble for leakers etc) that the leaks are facing challenges, that in *any meaningful way* nothing is being suppressed.

The mainstream media corporations running all over the world are reporting everything that there is to report.

There is no information war here.

For all of the conspiracy stuff out there - and I happen to be opposed to the public release (especially the poison pill encrypted, unredacted torrent - holding others hostage because you are too cowardly to stand up for what you believe) it is pretty remarkable that this has all been released.

So the current government is speaking out against the leaks - and using *legal* powers to defend itself - I just am not that incensed.

Submission + - Radiohead with "name your own price" LP7

JP writes: "Radiohead have announced a new record http://www.inrainbows.com/ via their blog http://www.radiohead.com/deadairspace. The album is to be released ten days from now. What is particularly novel is that you can choose whatever price you wish to pay for the digital download only version of the record or you can purchase an LP/CD combo box. It's already sorta "slashdotted" via pitchfork and a million other news sites. Merge records also has seemed to follow this pattern of giving fans inexpensive downloads (with merge it's via emusic.com) or premium physical goods with high grade vinyl and artwork etc. I'm sure we are seeing the intermediate future of popular music distribution, although Radiohead have an obvious unique existing "marketshare" to be able to pull this off more easily."

Submission + - Toshiba Plans HD DVD Laptop Counter-Offensive

An anonymous reader writes: Apparently hoping to counter the "PS3-effect" on Blu-ray sales, HD DVD backer Toshiba says it plans to put HD DVD drives in all of its laptops in 2008 . While the manufacturer currently provides optional HD DVD drives for its laptops, Toshiba Senior Vice President Hisatsugu Nonaka said today at a news conference that all Toshiba laptops will come with HD DVD drives next year. "The demand is there; people want to watch their favorite movies in high-definition on the road," explained Nonaka.
