Well, when your app, takes a picture, and puts it on the SD card, and you stop liking the app, and deleted it, and it deletes the photos as well, then you'll understand the issue. Until then, have fun.

Why would I want to have a DVR, when there are perfectly good alternatives that COULD fully replace it? I used to buy Tapes and DVDs for access to movies and whatnot, but with the advent of Hulu and Netflix, why should I? These companies maintain a library and I get shelf space back.
Granted, there are a few BluRay movies that are probably worth it (1080P, 7.1 stereo etc) but those have got to be spectacular IMHO.
You obviously do not understand Google "Android" certification process. To be called "Android", officially, you must be certified by Google and have the Play store (and other apps) installed.

Other companies have other "stores" (Amazon Kindle is Android, Nook is Android) and do not necessarily use Google Play. And of course you could side load all your apps from your list of "trusted" sites like Nickolai's Android Marketplace if you want. These phones are not "rooted" but are likely to be very easy to root. And I'm sure there will be an ASOP branch you can have, without Google Play services in short order. But chances are, you're already putting Google Play on your ASOP Roms anyways, so
The problem with SD slot, isn't with the manufacturers, it is with Android itself. Google as depreciated the usage of "external" storage, because of issues with SD storage. Some are actually good reasons (security), while others are to protect App developers from idiots who want to move apps to SD card.

Because Most People HATE itty bitty keys on phones. You might like them, but I'll never go back to a physical keyboard.
Generally speaking once you figure out Swype (Swiftkey or similar), you'll also never go back. I can type nearly as fast as a regular FULL size keyboard on my Android Phone.And for short messages it is even better than mashing who knows how many keys trying to type on microscopic keys.

Whenever I read accounts like this, I always, ALWAYS assume that there is much more to the story than the clean and simple explanation given. Obviously there is much more to this story than you are telling, because there are so many incongruous aspects to it (not the least of which is, how could the judge's decision possibly have stood on appeal if your acquaintance was so clearly wronged here?).
Not that I necessarily disagree with the likelihood that there's more to this story than we're being told, but most of the single mothers I've known throughout my life don't have the financial resources to hire a lawyer for the initial charge, let alone be able to afford an expensive appeal. Hell, most people I know.

Substitute payphone for VoIP gateway and you are left with the same problem. We routinely get anonymous whackos calling us from all over the world appearing to come from local numbers. It gets easier every day to make a practically untraceable call using IP as POTS overlay.

Affirmative Action is ultimately a futile gesture in that by the time a student reaches college, it's too late. Essentially, A.A. is closing the barn doors after the horses have fled.
Assuming two children with the same abilities, the primary indicators of academic success will be the Primary and Secondary schools and parental involvement, irrespective of economic situations, the vast majority of the time.
Efforts should be focused on improving the Primary and Secondary schools...variables that government can influence. Note that Improving does not automatically mean more money. School Choice, Teacher accountability, better discipline ( I favor laws that would immunize teachers from prosecution in self defense situations and intervention in altercations and also vastly increased powers of teachers to discipline students), to name a few.
I have no idea how to improve parental involvement.
But in the end, letting them go through the Hell that is our Elementary, Jr, and High school systems and THEN being concerned about them getting into college is just plain stupid.

There are actually a LOT of pay phones still in service, you just have to know where to look for them; most of the ones I've seen as of late were in gas station parking lots.
