You have it backwards. Crossfire works on pretty much any motherboard with multiple PCIe slots, provided they have sufficient bandwidth between them. SLI requires the motherboard manufacturer to purchase a license from Nvidia to support SLI on the board.

If I'm not mistaken, Intel's X58 board was the first Intel-made board to support SLI, and I don't think anyone made a P45 board supporting it.

I don't know. The things most keeping me from using FreeBSD instead of Linux on the desktop are closed source, ironically (NVidia blobs and Cedega, mostly)

I'm not a BSD user, but wouldn't you be able to use FreeBSD's binary compatibility to run Cedega, at least?

Scientists Create Artificial Bones From Wood 138

Created by blasting wood blocks with heat until they are nearly pure carbon then coating them with calcium, the scientists say the material allows bones to heal faster and more securely. Unlike titanium, the wood-based artificial bones flex slightly much like real bone, and the porous nature of the wood allows for better bio-activity with surrounding tissue. Though human testing is still likely years away, the material is currently being used successfully in sheep and may have other industrial applications."

Twitter, Facebook DDoS Attack Targeted One User 205

An anonymous reader writes "A Georgian blogger with accounts on Twitter, Facebook, LiveJournal, and Google's Blogger and YouTube was targeted in a denial of service attack that led to yesterday's site-wide outage at Twitter and problems at the other sites on, according to a Facebook executive. The blogger, who uses the account name 'Cyxymu' (the name of a town in the Republic of Georgia), had accounts on all of the different sites that were attacked at the same time, Max Kelly, chief security officer at Facebook, told CNet News." Here are user Cyxymu's LiveJournal Google cache and LiveJournal account (unreachable at this writing). Larry Magid writes on CNet that this individual blogs about independence of a breakaway region of Georgia. Macworld has some speculation in other directions on the motivations behind the DDoS attack.
Update: 08/07 19:52 GMT by KD : Cyber attacks on Cyxymu are not new. For over a year Evgeny Morozov has been calling attention to him as the first digital refugee.

Harry writes "Rumor has it that RadioShack is planning to re-brand itself as The Shack later this year, after eighty-eight years under the old name (most of them with a space in between 'Radio' and 'Shack'). I hope it's not true, because I don't think the move would do a thing to make the retailer a better, more successful business." The problem with that experiment is that most wifi devices make some kind of noise when turned on, and most devices supply at least some power to the antenna when turned on, even if wireless transmission is off.

I can hear my router in a quiet room, even though it's fanless. Mostly due to the LEDs making noise.
It's funny. Laugh.

This phenomenon is usually known as a "weekend".

If you order on a Friday, your order won't likely ship before Monday, because they don't work weekends.

Rush processing applies for orders made before noon, and if they don't ship your order that day, they refund the rush processing fee.
