Unfortunately, by your definition I don't believe that there *are* any civilized nations. It's not that I disagree with you, exactly. But I believe that your idealized definition of civilized doesn't map to any country in the world either at the present time or at any previous time.
Plenty of excuses, but sorry, if we're using English "kill the messenger" essentially means to act in such a way as to discourage others with the same (or sufficiently similar) message.
You may use the excuses to claim that the intent was other than "killing the messenger", but not to argue that that isn't what they did. To argue that that isn't what they did you would (probably) need to show that their action did not serve to discourage others with similar communications.
OTOH, perhaps in Spanish the phrase would be taken literally, as it once was in English. But in modern English "kill" has many figurative uses, such as "kill the spotlight" (though I think that's now more commonly "strike the spot", which also doesn't involve hitting the light).
Lately I keep having a popup saying "this site contains flash and your add-on needs an update because the version you have is insecure" but the update mechanism does not actually work (Iceweasel, Debian).
This has the fortunate side effect of making the site load faster, and much easier to to navigate, because it does not keep refreshing! (The worst offender is "The Independent" which I often had to abandon reading because of constant redraws - why the hell do people build these unuseable websites?)
It was obvious. I appologize for being nitpicky.
And now Seattle is going on a war against vehicles by eliminating required parking in new apartments and condos. So everyone must revert to on street parking. Good luck plugging your vehicle into an outlet if you are 200 feet down the street. It's back to gasoline for everyone.
Always ready to jump on a bandwagon, many new buildings in Vancouver are doing the same thing.
Most of our electricity here in B.C. comes from hydroelectric systems, so fossil fuels/emission elsewhere is a non-issue.

A middle-of-the-road EV like a Nissan Leaf would cover 98% of my driving. I can afford one easily. I could afford a Model S if I put my mind to it. I've even looked in to buying an old banger and converting it myself.
The problem is I have nowhere to plug one in. I live in an apartment building and there is no wiring in the parkade. Nor is there any requirement (or incentive) to retrofit the building. I've talked to the building management, but we've never come up with any answers.
New buildings must have EV support. Old ones don't.

useful???
The overwhelming majority of the population gets through their entire lives without finding jumping out of a perfectly good airplane "useful" . . .

Yes, I am still using my SGS3, and the SGS6 is definitely not more attractive to me (no external SD, No removable battery = no use. With CyanogenMod = no bloatware).
I don't think Prenda Law holds any copyrights. The interesting question is whether they had permission to publish the things they published.
Why not? Suing them seems totally appropriate unless they are making adequate pre-purchase disclosure, and ensuring that the prospective purchaser is aware of the characteristics of the thing they are purchasing.
Disagree? Re-read Adam Smith.
Yes, but remember, in those days "Cookie Monster" was a typical virus. And internet communities were relatively homogenous.
There are, there must be, limits to free speech. Shouting down someone else doesn't count as free speech. At most it's a reasonable reaction to their stifling of your own speech.
In this case it appears (as an outside observer) that this is the silencing of an honest, truthful, and respected voice. If she is an employee of Rededit, then I suppose that is their right, but the proper response is to refuse to deal with or support Rededit in any way. Which is what this protest appears to be doing.
IIUC, Amen is properly interpreted as meaning "So let it be" (traditionally "so be it", but subjunctive I is rarely used anymore).
As such, Amen is not the proper resoponse to an accurate portrayal of a historical fact. "yay verily" would be more accurate.
Thank you. If this is a part of that same complex of events, that puts things in better perspective. But why would Rededit choose to associate itself with the bigots? If it did, then ceasing to support it is the only reasonable first step.
One way to make your old car run better is to look up the price of a new model.
