I'm not quite sure that this sentence below works to provide the perspective he wanted to convey

To put its age into perspective: Gmail is older today than Hotmail was when Gmail made its debut a decade ago.

So, Hotmail was less than 10 years old, 10 years ago...?

Girl Quits On Dry Erase Board a Hoax 147

suraj.sun writes "It's the same old story: young woman quits, uses dry erase board and series of pictures to let entire office know the boss is a sexist pig, exposes his love of playing FarmVille during work hours." Story seem too good to be true? It probably is, at least according to writer Peter Kafka. Even so, Jay Leno and Good Morning America have already reached out to "Jenny."

Comment Re:Docking station? Who cares? (Score 1) 510

Unless you're using a laptop stand a laptop is horrible ergonomically to work on, even with external keyboard and mouse the monitor is the big contender - too low for proper use.

I love my docking station, I have my keyboard, mouse, network all hooked up along with two 22" monitors, drop my laptop in and power it up and I'm ready to roll. Without the docking station I could only drive one external monitor and would have to use the laptop monitor as my second screen.

The laptop itself provides the flexibility to work from home, in meetings or travel.

Comment Re:So... (Score 1) 285

Wouldn't it be more appropriate to describe it as such?

Walmart opens up in a town (CES booking conference center) Space leased from a property management company (hotels drive business from vistors)

Random other people show up who don't want to lease storefront space in the same plaza as Walmart but rather decide to start selling their wares from a van in the parking lot of the landlord (Business setup in hotel rooms that are driving business from CES)

Landlord chases out those who are competing with their bread and butter customer - Walmart (CES & its guests)

Sure those who are visiting Walmart/CES may like to see what the other vendors are selling but doesn't bode well for the landlord to allow the competition.

Does this analogy even make sense? I'm not too sure myself now, they're tough to write sometimes.

Modern Warfare 2 Not Recalled In Russia After All 94

thief21 writes "After claims that console versions Modern Warfare 2 had been recalled in Russia due to complaints from politicians and the gaming public over the infamous airport slaughter scene, it turns out the stories were completely untrue. Activision never released a console version of the game in Russia." Instead, they simply edited the notorious scene out of the PC version. They did this of their own volition, since Russia doesn't have a formal ratings committee.

Comment Mercury Content of CFL bulbs (Score 1) 569

People are a little too concerned about the mercury in these bulbs with no concept of the amount that is contained within. I oversee the reclaim program for our office campus and I'll give you the breakdown from last year's bulb recycling efforts:

1,982 lamps/bulbs recycled

a total of

495.1 kg of glass

5.85 kg of metal

7.4 kg of phosphor

0.073 kg of mercury = 73 g = 2.575 oz

That's what is generated from 4 buildings in one year.
