Comment Call them back, especially politicians (Score 2) 167

When I receive a political robocall, I make note of the politician who's the subject of the call and I then proceed to call their campaign headquarters and speak very rudely and sternly to the staff person who answers the call. I've gotten off several calling lists that way- lists that I NEVER asked to be on. It probably doesn't accomplish much, but I don't think it's a wasted effort to call and annoy people who willingly call and annoy me.

In local elections, I can frequently talk directly to the candidate. It's always fun to listen to them stammer and try to make an apology.

Note to politicians: If I want to hear from you, I will contact you. I don't need nor want you calling me and I don't need or want any of your "supporters" calling me on your behalf. I get enough of your foolishness in the media. I don't need to hear it over my phone.

It looks like you misunderstood what I and several others have been trying to say. Being a responsible adult means either designating someone to be a designated driver or arranging some other way of getting yourself and your girl home after an evening of boozing it up. It's really not that difficult to do, but it does require a little effort and some forethought. If you can't do that, then you deserve to suffer whatever happens to come your way ... I just hope that you don't kill or injure anyone else when you decide to DUI/DWI.

If a grown man is dangerously-close to the legal limit, he needs to hand the keys over to someone more responsible. Chances are, if he does choose to DUI, nothing will happen. However, there's always a chance he will cause an accident and seriously injure or kill someone. DUI is a serious crime and 100% preventable, all you have to do is act like a responsible adult and hand your keys to someone who is not under the influence. In that case you will not have to worry about getting that DWI on your record. The only person who is to blame for a DUI/DWI conviction is the person who gets drunk or high and gets behind the wheel of a car.

Comment Re:When comon sends makes no sense (Score 1) 706

Getting killed by a drunk driver isn't "bad luck" and it's not an accident. The drunk made a conscious decision to get drunk or drugged up and then get behind the wheel. They made a conscious decision ... You don't accidentally get drunk. It's the same as some idiot walking down the street firing off a rifle. He might not hit anyone the first few times he does it, however it's highly likely that one day, he will. The blatant disregard that people who commit DWI/DUI have for the lives of others is absolutely disgusting. The excuses and apologies that other people make for them are almost as disgusting. Drunk drivers who kill people should be locked up in prison for the rest of their lives.
I've heard all of the arguments you've made many times before. You're not going to change my mind ... And I'm not letting my emotions cloud my judgement. I've seen far too many innocent people harmed by idiots who think they can knock back a few shots of whiskey and a few beers with the guys after work, then climb in to their car and go driving. Alcohol and driving NEVER mix. Too many people excuse DWI because alcohol is a legal drug and consuming it in excess is an acctable practice in the USA and other countries. Unfortunately, not enough people are mature and responsible enough to handle it.

Comment Re:When comon sends makes no sense (Score 1) 706

The topic of this discussion is not incompetent drivers, the people we are talking about are the ones who make the conscious decision to get drunk, get in their car and go driving down the road. Drunk driving is something that can be prevented- as long as people act like responsible adults. Unfortunatelty, too many people do not do that. For that reason the penalties should be much greater than they are now. Drunk drivers have no respect for the lives of the other people on the roads.
