I hope one day you find yourself hanging from a cliff and just before the person reaches down to help you they say, agree to hand over all your assets or I will divert my resources to else where and assure you, that you can always wait for a more competitive offer. Perhaps a fire brigade that agrees to buy your house for 50% of it's value or they will not put out the fire. Price gouging practices inevitably leads to people creating disasters in order to exploit them. Creating monopolies are the same idea. So no, your ideas suck and they are grossly anti-social and have no place in a modern society.

Actually it is normally called price gouging or profiteering http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P... and is normally considered illegal in most modern democracies, which is the reason why it likely will not be patentable, although based upon past behaviour by the USPTO it will likely pass as long as the device it happens on, has rounded corners. This style of continuous price adjustment targeted against individuals is likely to result in some new regulations, especially with regard to disclosure or deceit with regard how the price is established. You can charge people less than the regular price however you will run into real problems with regard to prejudice, racism et al when you attempt to charge more than the regular price.

Likely best action apart from trying to deflect the asteroid, give everyone a free supply of happy pills to last until the impact, lots and lots of happy pills. It wont help with the impact but most certainly will mitigate the harm caused by people acting out against other people. In fact inserting the happy drugs right into the food and water supply would make sense.

In a more serious vein, establishment of distributed localised support system that well seek and readily accept volunteers, so individuals can focus on supporting their local community rather than dwelling upon their own circumstance. Establishing that mutual support network well before hand, one that includes the whole community, would make sense.

The hypocritical delusional that all members of a libertarian society can be free to do what ever they want to do when ever they want to do it without impacting everyone else trying to do the same thing at the same time and that economic freedom (the right to exploit anyone and everyone) has anything to do with social freedom (the right not to be exploited) or that ownership of the majority of the environment by a minority somehow does not impinge upon personal freedom of the majority or how libertarians don't show any shame when they abuse the word liberty when they talk about wanting to use their capital to deny others their liberty or how libertarians always hate government services except when they use them, then they are great. Seriously, it really is a teenage political philosophy with all that it implies and has no basis in reality with regard to a social species, we must share pretty much everything it is our normal mature genetic nature and the means by which we prosper as a species.

... Dragnet from 1968 or 1969 showing the situation after the assassination of the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. ... You take the afros and 60s cars out of that episode and it could have been made yesterday.

Except Michael Brown was no Martin Luther King. King would have been appalled by the circumstances into which Brown's family launched him through neglect of his character. King would have been disgusted by Brown, who spend the morning smoking dope, robbing a convenience store to get more supplies, and then assaulting a cop. King would likewise have been disgusted by people chanting in the streets about things that didn't happen, outraged by their willingness to destroy people's property and burn down their neighborhood businesses, or shout in large organized groups about wanting to see dead cops NOW!

No, things are very different now than they were even 20 years ago. Worse, when it comes to that sort of thing.

The US force is a tripwire to draw the US into the conflict. That's why we are there. The US force is tiny and not sufficient to do anything useful except get overwhelmed. But when US bodies start showing up on newscasts, the DPRK is toast

Case in point, the troops there call themselves "speed bumps." They know their job in case of a N. Korean attack is to get overrun and die, so the U.S. populace will get all outraged and back a full reprisal in S. Korea's defense.

And to answer OP, the idea is that the outcome of a war between N. Korea and S. Korea has enough uncertainty that some loony of a N. Korean leader may actually try it. But the outcome of a war between N. Korea and the U.S. is so obvious that no N. Korean leader would try it. (Well, no sane N. Korean leader. I'm starting to have my doubts about how much sanity is left after 60 years of indoctrination about how "N. Korea drove the U.S. out" of half the peninsula.) If you talk with S. Koreans, most of them don't exactly like U.S. troops being there, but are willing to tolerate it for this tangible deterrence factor.

But couldn't the UN do something? When the original 1950 "police action" in Korea was authorized by the UN security council, China's vote was controlled by Taiwan, and the Soviet Union happened to be boycotting the UN to try to get that vote transferred to mainland China. Let's just say that if a similar situation should arise, there's considerable uncertainty about getting anything more than a strongly worded statement from the UN.

Well I definitely give you points for being so tenacious in your attempt to pretend you still understand the conversation.

Another poster says that people are wrong to point out Obama's failures, because look at all of the things HE accomplished. Except, HE didn't do those things. He's not responsible for them. The Bin Laden take-down had essentially zero to do with him or any policy on his part, other than, "Yeah, keep doing what you started doing under Bush, until we get that guy." I'm pointing out that the person trying to fish around for some way to show Obama as a success, is attributing to him personally things for which he is not responsible. But you keep attacking that straw man, if it makes you feel better. Nobody is fooled, and I doubt you're even fooling yourself.

From what the articles have said, part of the reason he sold was he couldn't take the stress and fan anger directed at him (as the company figure head for things he didn't personally have a hand in) made him really unhappy.

I think if Rolls Royce dealers charged $150K each year for required maintenance on a $200K Rolls Royce, there'd be few people getting service at the dealer.

Why the bloody hell do you just allow them to steal your legal stuff, the items that you are not allowed to carry on should just be checked in.
