Comment 6 months? (Score 4, Insightful) 311

I wouldn't worry about finding specific apps that are "safe" for a 6-month old. At that age, no parent should even consider letting their child use an Internet-connected device unsupervised. So, if yo show the child something on the web browser, or another app, you should know specifically what you're looking at and should be 100% comfortable with the material.

I didn't know Bing was a map application. I thought Bing was that guy that was tap dancing with Danny F**king Kaye on the hap-hap-happiest Christmas ever with those jolly bunch of a**holes at the Griswold's? :-)

Comment Economy (Score 1) 219

I disagree that China will be the world's largest economy. First of all, let's not neglect India. Secondly, what we're seeing today is an equilibrium effect taking place, as China and India make gains to catch up and Europe and North America give a little. It will all eventually settle, and we'll have three dominant world economies: Asia, Europe, and the Americas (North and South).

Comment Is this news? (Score -1, Flamebait) 1163

This doesn't even meet the broad definition of news , much less news for nerds . Slashdot, you're disappointing me. All this means is that a bunch of random retards in predominantly southern states have figured out how to create an online petition on the White House website and are crapflooding them. Even the GNAA is disappointed at this. Wake me if these nutjobs manage to convince a Governor or State Legislature to draft articles of secession.

The good news is that you already have more qualifications than the former Governor.

I personally know several professors who will not accept citing Wikipedia.

You shouldn't cite Wikipedia for the exact same reason that you shouldn't cite Encyclopedia Britannica. Both are tertiary references, and it's preferred to cite the primary or secondary source. If you haven't figured this out by the time you reach college, you need to go back to high school.

There's also a huge difference between "citing Wikipedia" in term papers and "using Wikipedia" in your research. I fully support Professors that ban citing Wikipedia. But I completely support students that want to use Wikipedia as a good starting point to their research on a given topic.

Comment Kids watching TV? Or kids on TV? (Score 1) 334

With shows like Toddlers & Tiaras and Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, I think kids should be as far away from TV as possible, whether they are in front of or behind the camera. Add to that the recurring theme that most "child stars" seem to end up later in life with major drug and/or alcohol problems,. . .
