Why do you think the password needs to be cracked at all?

1. Make a copy of the hash
2. Replace the hash with a hash of a known password
3. Log in with the known password and do whatever you wanted to do with the account
4. Replace the hash with the copy created in step 1
5. Delete the traces of the login so that the original user would not see the login information.

Universal has way more lawyers than any single person that uploads stuff to Youtube. So even if someone were to point out that the DMCA request was illegal, Universal could just sue that someone and keep them tied up in courts for a decade. The way I see it, that makes them think they can do whatever they please with zero repercussions if they happen to be wrong.

I came here to ask the same question. How on Earth is this thing patentable? Is any web service now patentable? Could the Twitter guys have patented "system and method for writing 140-character messages via browser"?

Following the same logic: making it punishable to drive faster than the speed limit makes people instantly brake when seeing a cop measuring speed, thus potentially making driving more dangerous. So speeding should be allowed, right?

Is there some kind of requirement to provide actual proof that an IP address connected to a torrent feed? The manpower required to check the evidence simply does not exist, so they are pretty much free to say "we suspect the owners of the following IP addresses", followed by thousands of addresses.

ACTA has not been rejected by the EU. Not officially at least. EU has said that it doesn't like ACTA but they're still taking part of the next round of negotiations.

You can state that Hans Reiser murdered his wife because the court found him guilty of that. Assange has not been found guilty by any court so I'd say he is to be assumed guilty until a judge decides that he really is guilty.

I'm hoping that someone famous (like Jobs certainly is) drawing attention to the airport security checks will have a positive effect. Perhaps the mass media would publish an article about some of the more stupid rules or pressure them to use a bit more common sense at the security check points.

I, for one, would love to fly without having to think if my toothpaste will be confiscated at the next security check.
