Comment They should make NSA-proof phones (Score 1) 141

Imagine if they made phones where all communications are encrypted, and all of the encryption keys are stored on the phone itself. Throw in a Tor-like network to scatter packets, and make it so that unencrypted data never goes through Blackberry's networks or servers. Make it so that it's impossible for anyone to find out who is communicating with whom, and the phones will sell like hotcakes.

Submission + - ARM Server Start-up Calxeda Closes Up Shop (pcmag.com)

Austerity Empowers writes: "Calxeda, the pioneering maker of low-power microservers using hundreds of ARM central processor cores and System-on-a-Chip (SoC) products for hardware appliances, has laid off most of its employees and is shutting down operations beyond servicing its existing customers and investments." A sad day for many of us.

Try the WD TV Live. I have one, and it's awesome. Plays MKV files ripped straight from a Blu-Ray.

As for Netflix, there appears to be some kind of DNS problem with some devices. I had to set my router to 8.8.8.8 to get my TV to work. Setting the DNS on the TV to 8.8.8.8 was not good enough. I suspect it's a conspiracy between Samsung and Google.

Maybe your 4 month contract requirement is weeding out the good coders that don't want to give up a full-time job for a 4 month test that may leave them without a job if they don't live up to some hard to quantify metric of "good enough".

Exactly. I'm a senior software developer that's never had a problem being employed. Why would I quit my current job to take a risk with a short-term contract? Will I get full benefits during these four months?

Comment Re:No media server support upsets me (Score 1) 312

If the PS4 support is anything like the Xbox 360 support, then you're not missing much. I got tired of all the limitations of my Xbox when it came to playing media files, and so I bought a WD TV Live. It's blows away my Xbox. I can attach a USB hard drive to the WD box which then appears as an SMB mount on my Mac. I then rip a Blu-ray to an 20GB MKV file, and it plays perfectly. No transcoding needed.
