Submission + - Kazaa founder wants us to find "legit" fil

Just because I'm an writes: The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Kevin Bermeister and Michael Speck have been developing technology to return search results on file sharing programs that point to pay-for content from the copyright holders. The article reports that there are trials planned for Australian ISPs with interest from elsewhere on the globe. Looks like Aussie internet users are going to end up being righteously knobbed given the recent discussions about the Great Downunder Firewall.

Doing the Math On the New MacBook 783

Technologizer writes "Apple's new MacBook is a significantly different machine than its predecessor — a slicker laptop at a higher price point. But does it carry a large price premium over similar Windows PCs? I did a painstaking spec-by-spec comparison versus three roughly comparably-configured Windows machines, and came to the conclusion that the value it offers for price paid is not out of whack with the Windows world." The article uses the phrase "Mac tax," which one commenter points out is a recent Microsoft marketing canard.

suitablegirl writes "As we have discussed, Customs and Border Patrol is allowed to seize and download data from laptops or electronic devices of Americans returning from abroad. Blogger Incites Outcry Over Twitter Harassment 146

CNet is reporting that one blogger has started an outcry about harassment as it applies to Twitter. While their written stance appears to support the safeguarding of abuse, Twitter appears to be waffling on the issue when it comes to the hard line of enforcement. "The final response to Waldman's complaint from Twitter co-founder Biz Stone asserted that "Twitter is a communication utility, not a mediator of content," and that "Twitter recognizes that it is not skilled at judging content disputes between individuals. Determining the line between update and insult is not something that Twitter, nor a crowd, would do well. Stone added that Twitter's team would continue talking about which situations were appropriate for account banning."

Submission + - Police issue Death Threats to Man with Camera 9

An anonymous reader writes: Cops in St. Louis have taken objection over a local man filming their abuses of power, and have responded with death threats, and stalking. The guy they're harassing installed a pretty neat video system in his car after having received a speeding ticket that he that was unfair. What he ended up catching on tape was far worse than a speeding ticket. Luckily the news has picked up on it, so he is probably out of immediate danger.

Submission + - Google, Yahoo! & Microsoft walk into a bar... (netregistry.com.au)

Just because I'm an writes: So they barge into the Saloon after a hard day of panning for gold in the rich vein of ore to be found in the tubes.

Yahoo! says "yeeeeehar!" sits down and says...I take about 22 days to index a NetRegistry submission.

"Not bad", says Google but it takes me only 14 days on average. Google leans back on the edge of the bar, flicks the propeller on the top of his Stetson and waits for Microsoft to say something.

Microsoft shrugs shoulders nonchalantly "Meh, maybe a month... maybe two. What's the difference? They get there eventually. Important thing is I gets me the gold.".

Google looks back at Yahoo! quizzically and wonders aloud "..and you wanted to sleep with him?.. Sheesh!"
