I agree. Once you get hired, you have a full time job repairing and extending the code you're responsible for. If you spent your time learning new stuff, then you'd get canned.
Paying someone without experience more just because they happen to know a specific framework seems foolish.
Caveats: The Old-Fart must be willing to change and learn, and the Youngster had better be willing to learn the old stuff.

I'm guessing that the replicator *must* consume (huge amounts of) energy. Otherwise wouldn't it violate the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics?
This is what I was thinking about:
Before the replicator could be invented, a power source that is virtually free would have to be created.
That changes the balance of this entire thread.

If money is obsolete, what stakes do they use in their poker games?
In the Star Trek Universe, money wasn't obsolete. It just wasn't needed on a star ship. It was certainly used and needed on the planets they visited. I think the Federation called them "credits"...or was that Star Wars?
Randy
Very nicely thought out!!
I've always thought that *before* any of these technologies could be created, the cost of energy would have to be zero. And it would have to be zero because the energy requirements of these are *HUGE*!
Once that happens, then society would change dramatically. It's possible that no one would have to work for a living ever again. Think about how much money we spend on energy and how much energy it takes to produce the items we buy.
The actual raw materials would be the rare and valuable commodity.

in my opinion is "Electronic devices must be checked".
- "No uncooked hamburger patties before noon on Tuesdays": silly
I picked the "no uncooked hamburger" option, because it was the most specific.
The TSA only reacts, so if someone creates something that looks like it might be a bomb from something that looks like raw meat, then you can be sure that we will be screened for raw meat.
Randy
Sorry...this won't work.
I can have a bomb implanted that is remotely detonated.
Rollgunner is right...the only sure fire way to prevent planes from falling out of the sky or hitting something, is to keep them all on the ground.
Maybe we should make long paved runways that planes can *drive* on from city to city.
We are already strip searched before boarding the plane, so it's a small step from here to flying naked.

There's a great application called Iconoid 9http://www.sillysot.com/) that I've been using since Windows 95 that remembers where all the icons are and can restore them after the screen resolution changes.
I love lots and lots of icons on my work desktop. Not so many on my personal computers.
I don't know if it works in Windows 7 or Vista.

Re: I wish they would have added "self-driving capabilities" instead of some of the dumb things like "rocket launcher"...
That's what I took the "comfy recliner" option. I agree that my seats are comfy, but not as comfy as my couch at home in front of my TV.

Re: possibility to include video clips
I agree! In fact, since my eyesight is getting poorer, I would love it if they just included one long video clip that told the story so that I didn't have to read at all!
Hey wait! I think I'll apply for a patent!
