Submission + - New Ruby Environment for Beginners: Hackety Hack
Adrian Petrescu writes: "A few years ago, why the lucky stiff, of Ruby fame, published a famous essay lamenting the lack of an easy entry point for beginners into the world of programming, like the days of yore when anyone with a Commodore and a book could start playing around with interesting things.
In the intervening time, he has gone and done something about it. Introducing Hackety Hack, a simple Ruby-based environment that comes equipped with seven lessons (so far) that lead a beginner through the joys of programming the Ruby way. Lessons include building a chat client and a YouTube video downloader, all in an intuitive and easy-to-understand fashion.
Interestingly, why has been testing and tweaking it for several months with a small group of beginners (and their kids) to make sure it flows as nicely as he intended it to."
