Submission + - Two months later, the Nexus One gets Gingerbread (cnet.com)

TheSeventh writes: "More than two months after making its debut with the Nexus S, Gingerbread is finally coming to the Nexus One. This latest announcement was made last night on Google's Twitter account: http://twitter.com/#!/googlenexus/status/40221838743179264 Since the Nexus S debut, Google has said more than once that the Nexus One update would be coming out "in a few weeks", but didn't give any explanations as to why it was being delayed, which has irritated more than a few users.

Along with the OS update, it should include a new version of the Gmail App (let's also hope that they finally included a way to empty the trash folder of the built-in Email application too), as well as speed improvements, and bug fixes.

According to Google, it may take a few weeks for the over-the-air update to hit all handsets. Let's hope these next "few weeks" go faster than the previous."

Submission + - A different kind of MP3 Piracy (google.com)

TheSeventh writes: Gone are the swashbuckling days of repelling pirates with cutlasses — a British firm is spearheading use of a high-tech "sonic laser" to beat bandits on the high seas in the form of a long range acoustic device (LRAD) — hooked up to a humble MP3 player. If you get too close, they just might blast Lawrence Welk or something even worse.
