The NSA is SUPPOSED to be spying on foreign countries. IS that not what our spy agencies do? (CIA, NSA, etc). The issues is with them spying on Americans. No, that's not it at all. Dropping the speed limit from "stupidly low" to "Even MORE stupidly low" won't change a thing. Most modern cars can cruise at 80+ all day long on an interstate highway perfectly safely. The problem is the idiot texting, or insisting he has the right to be in the left lane because "he's going the speed limit!"

I'm too lazy to search it out now, but there are NUMEROUS studies showing that increasing speed limits has either no effect or a net POSITIVE effect on safety. (It's only negative for police revenue generation).

You think that's dumb, I fly the damn things and get more heavily screened at some airports than the pre-check people. (Literally, was once thrown out of a precheck line with my entire crew, IN UNIFORM, because we "didn't qualify" and had to go through the regular line.)

The problem with the comparison to the canadian system is they don't have the MASSIVE underclass that the US does. Most of the country is gainfully employed. Not to mention that the whole system is like, 1/8th the size.

Now, I dunno where you're getting 80 hours from, but my brother is currently in the academy to become a cop in baltimore, and it's 6mos+. Sure, it's not a 6- year "masters" program, but 80 hours is a bit of an exaggeration, don't ya think?

If it has good enough heading and position information, it'd make a bitchin' heads-up display alternative for pilots. Student pilot lost? Ask your google glasses to point out the nearest airport. Got an emergency in the clouds? It'll show you where the nearest runway is. Link it to the transponder and let it highlight traffic out in the real world. Plenty of applications for it in aviation.

No, you're thinking of the TCAS system. That isn't in any way attatched to the ACARS or ADS-B systems.

Plus, the pilots are used to seeing "normal" ACARS messages every day, if something odd came across, they'd notice something was up IMMEDIATELY.

The police definitely would have been interested. I've had (on at least three separate occasions) flights that I was flying held at the gate at departure time so the cops could board and remove people who purchased their tickets with stolen credit cards.

That's got to be one of the DUMBEST things to buy dishonestly. I mean, purchasing something that guarantees you will be at a certain place at a certain time? Duh?
