Comment Licensing Disconnect (Score 3, Interesting) 290

From the website:

We don't use DRM. When you buy these games, they are yours. Feel free to play them without an internet connection, back them up, and install them on all of your Macs and PCs freely.

Now, from the EULA:

1.1 License Grant. 2D BOY hereby grants to you a non-exclusive license to use a single copy of the object code version of the Game for your personal, non-commercial home entertainment use on one personal computer or other compatible electronic device. You may sell or transfer your copy of the Game to another person along with, and subject to, your rights under this EULA, only if you do not retain any copies.

Emphasis is mine. It looks like Marketing might want to talk to Legal here...

You really think Apple won't incorporate any of Lala's streaming services into a cloud based version of iTunes? Really?

Might, might not. Did they need to buy Lala to do that? Not likely.

Using your argument from above (essentially, buy out a competitor before it presents itself as a real opponent in the market), this makes a lot of sense. If--and this is a big 'if'--Apple plan(s/ned) to integrate paid music streaming into its business model, then why not take out one of the up-and-coming competitors while picking up some of their IP and maybe their most talented staff?

That's what I'd do, anyway.

Maybe they should look at the management during his time there as well? Just a friendly suggestion...

Submission + - Bill Gates on Steve Jobs: "He knows he can't win (edibleapple.com)

An anonymous reader writes: Back in 1998, Bill Gates was comfortably ruling Microsoft’s empire while Apple was bleeding cash and meekly attempting to stay in business. Now, 12 years later, Bill Gates is retired and Steve Jobs has masterfully transformed Apple into one of the most innovative, successful, and profitable tech companies in the world. But back then, Bill Gates quipped about Jobs return to Apple, "What I can'(TM)t figure out is why he (Steve Jobs) is even trying (to be the CEO of Apple)? He knows he can'(TM)t win."

Okay, fine. I'll rewrite the subject... ahem.

Not that this matters to most users, but Firefox is incredibly annoying to manage in an enterprise environment when compared to other browsers. This single factor turned me off to Firefox entirely over the past few years (i.e. as other competitive browsers became available).
