Exactly my point, if one of these UI "innovations" was actually useful it would have had some measure of adoption by now.
The absolute zero adoption of this concept in the 20+ years it's been around proves how pointless it is.
But in theory each time it cycles its less expensive, more advanced, and more available.
And just as useless.

I've seen this in action, people so clueless that they don't know that they're clueless.
The last serious incident of this type I encountered the poor guy was "demoted" to testing and then the work load ramped up until he had an emotional breakdown.
He initially took on a job he was not qualified for and had lots of crazy opinions that pissed off a lot of people, but his managers failed him by victimizing him instead of helping him with career planning.
Now that I think of it, I think the same managers failed me in the same way...
What I got out of it is that he's not an 'IT Geek.' That's a specialized kind, ya know. Do you have a good understanding of the relative benefits of CMOS and TTL? How about the different types of lapidary grit?

So if an article has terms you don't understand do you whine about it or look it up? That's the difference.
Slashdot has always leaned towards the highly technical, and because of the specialization of technology it's unlikely that anyone is going to understand ALL the jargon.
A geek will look it up and perhaps even be a little excited to LEARN something, I don't know what to call someone who just whines that they weren't spoon fed.

Not all authors will agree with that, having someone take care of the business while a writer focuses on writing has value.

Yeah, unless you've got thousands of dollars of software that are locked to that PC configuration (hardware and software). Then you're looking at a major expense and hassle of upgrading everything just to do exactly what you were before.

That's very odd, I used a bluetooth keyboard and wifi all the time with my first generation ipad.
I'm surprised to hear that, I've never had any issues with the bluetooth keyboard. More amusing is that you can also plug in a keyboard by using the "camera-kit" USB dongle.
I've used the original iPad and the 3rd generation with the Apple bluetooth keyboard that they sell with Macs, but my recommendation is the Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover. However I've heard the latest one for the iPad Air is not as good as its predecessors.
I'm constantly using bluetooth with my iPad, with a good keyboard it's a great mini-pc
