According to Samsung "The judge's exclusion of evidence on independent creation meant that even though Apple was allowed to inaccurately argue to the jury that the F700 was an iPhone copy, Samsung was not allowed to tell the full story...The excluded evidence would have established beyond doubt that Samsung did not copy the iPhone design," An article at another site described judge Lucy Koh as "Livid" The defendant released exculpatory evidence that had been suppressed by the judge. This after many stories in the tech press portray the case as Samsung versus Lucy Koh instead of Samsung versus Apple.

djl4570 writes: An excellent study in the gradual change of geographic features as a river meander becomes an ox bow lake when the river current cuts through the meander. The same Google Earth feature can be used to view changes in urban and suburban geography. The historical data is a work in progress. The region I looked at only has images going back to 1993. Other regions will have a different mix and depth of data.

This video is an interesting look at early tablet concepts in light of Apple and Samsung litigating over Tablet related IP. The video looks like a promotional video for internal use or to woo investors. It is surprisingly prescient for an era when we were running Mosaic or a beta version of Netscape and that many of us were using third party software such as Trumpet for a SLIP connection.
Of course this video does not foresee paradigm changes such as the massive expansion of the Internet which gave us sites such as Drudge, the explosion of blogs or the corresponding erosion of trust in the main stream media."

djl4570 writes: CEO Tim Cook thinks so. I've spent some time playing with an iPad. It was interesting enough for me to test the waters with a Galaxy Tab. This submission originates from my Galaxy Tab docked in an external KB. I've been surfing casually for awhile now and the answer is no. Tablets will not replace laptops anytime soon. Far too many sites have tablet hostile controls. Even /. Places the UID icon right next to the logout button. Works if you're using a stylus but not so well with a fingertip. The clickable NWS maps are unpredictable using a tablet. Other sites such as Darkroastedblend.com have mobile sites optimized for the portrait format used by smartphones. The onscreen keyboard is awkward and slow to use but I have moderated and posted a comment or two using the on screen keyboard. I don't see tablets replacing laptops any time soon, but I do see them converging much the same way this tablet is docked to a keyboard looks like a small laptop.

djl4570 writes: Astronaut Jim Lovell held on to his Apollo 13 flight check lists for over forty years. Sells for serious bucks, now NASA claims ownership. NASA obviously has no sense of shame about waiting forty years before claiming something that Lovell almost threw away. Is NASA in it for the money?

Google is pushing its own Chrome browser down in search rankings for 60 days following reports that the company was involved in an ad campaign that paid for links to bolster search traffic.

According to Sullivan, it appears that Google contracted its Web ads out to a firm called Essence Digital, which in turn asked a company called Unruly Media to implement the campaign.

I see this as an astute move on Google's part. Rather than circle the wagons they say oops and correct the problem. Google understands that such link pimping is a cancer that undermines the integrity of their search engine. That's why it isn't allowed and now Google is saying we don't support a double standard either.

djl4570 writes: "Federal Judge John Kane ruled that Righthaven LLC of Las Vegas lacked standing to file copyright infringement lawsuits in Colorado under its lawsuit contract with the Denver Post and abused the Copyright Act in doing so. Righthaven was ordered to reimburse the defendant his costs including reasonable attorneys fees."

djl4570 writes: This story is a good example of why the general public does not understand the problem with patent trolls. This MSM story paints the patent troll with a sympathetic human interest "I just want my day in court" brush. Unless you recognized the name Larry Lockwood you would have to read several paragraphs to get to the name PanIP which I do remember reading about here on /. and elsewhere where he was not a human interest story.
