I'd say that it confirms that Lenovo is a fishy company.
Last time I tried to install Linux, admittedly more than a few years ago by now, it was very much YMMV. Sometimes it WAS easier than Windows, but other times it was a royal PITA. With the same distro.
Some years back, I worked in home automation. During that time, I realized that the key is not retrofitting a home (that's an invitation for trouble or gimmickry) but to build a home with smart features in mind in the first place (ex: vent airflow and temperature sensors, actuators to adjust vents, etc.) Unfortunately, house builders were not really serious about the effort at the time and resorted to gimmickry anyway, when they could (calling a movie theater room with a single light and a touch panel controller 'home automation.')
My house is old. I think they'd just invented indoor plumbing when they built it. I'm sure putting home automation would be quite an experience.
I sometimes use the Google Fiber app when my remote batteries go pfft, but usually it's easier to just use ye olde remote, even if it's not as "kewl" as using the phone.
Yup! I know of several brands that have strong recognition, at least to me. I recognize them for their terrible ads, and I don't want to reward them for such crap.

One problem that I hear about when this issue comes up is that some greedy relative will convince the patient to off himself so they can get their money. My solution to that is to cut the relative out of my will before authorizing him to make the decision for me. What could go wrong?
Yup. I probably spend as much time watching Netflix as I do broadcast TV.
I spend quite a bit of time on Netflix, usually on a TV, sometimes on a tablet. I consider that "TV".
I don't think my amount of watching changed much. In the old days, I'd plop down in my chair and watch whatever drek was on at the time. Now, I can watch the drek that airs when I'm not home or asleep, and it's usually better than the PrimeTime drek. But I still have a finite amount of time at home, and just because there's a lot more to watch doesn't mean I actually have the time to watch them.
Too bad UI developers don't realize this.
