Comment What is there to gain. (Score 4, Interesting) 338

Here we are owing all sorts of money, and now we are giving a whole lot of money that doesn't exist, to a program that has yielded no worth? What's to gain? I've heard all of the bad news about TSA, and all the molesting, and violations that they commit, with no reprocutions. But please, someone explain to me what is it that the Government really benefits from this.

Perhaps a bad comparison, I support owning a firearm. I have family and friends who have use their guns in defense, so I see some benefit, among all the risks. But I do not own a gun, or have one in my home. Why? Because I have never been in a situation that I required a gun.
This is like posting armed guards in my upper middle class neighborhood home!

Maybe not of the whole earth. Perhaps Noah's flood happened somewhere in the area that early humans inhabited, and Noah built the boat for that small region. That area could have been the whole world to that people.
I believe the Bible was written by man, with only some of it being inspired by God, the rest being historical.

I should point out that there is a silent sizable chunk of religious folk that embrace science and evolution as the how. Starting with the big bang (maybe) a little (or maybe a lot) of influence to eventually create humans (but not necessarily just home sapien). What we have in scripture as to how it all happened is (at least in my opinion) the way who ever wrote it understood what was being said, or written. If God created the universe, it would be foolish to limit how he did it.

I have to disagree. If I hear same size as Jupiter, I think same dimensions. Trying to determine if that was my educated opinion, or if that was a common sense opinion, I asked my Mom, who knows very little about this stuff I told her we have 2 balls that weigh 2 pounds each, one is a beach ball, and one is a golf ball. Which one is bigger? She answered the Beach ball, but understood that they weigh the same.

Regardless of the common understanding (or misunderstanding), we should be clear that mass and size are 2 different measurements.

Please, connect some dots for me, give me some hard facts that validate your theories. Show me why Occam's Razor doesn't seem to apply here.

I agree, the idea is flawed. Though maybe if they have the TV series airing sometime after events in the MMO. Say the MMO starts recording and noting events happening starting in Feb 2012. But the TV series waits till later in the year to start airing episodes. Making the TV series months, behind the actual game. Might be too long to wait for that satisfaction of having a part in the plot, but it also makes room for 3 different demographics: The viewers, the players, and the ones that are actively following both, and trying to play/watch in accordance. I see this being hard to pull off.

I agree that guns made to kill people being on the streets is bad. It's always been bad, and it's tragic that it's already there. But it is. What I would like to see is strict, even tighter, even to the point of out right banning, of guns made specifically to kill people. and maybe safety classes or psychological screening to be qualified to own/carry guns made for hunting. We do it for driving, so why not projectile weapons?

To counter the expected "criminals will still have guns made to kill", anyone in there right mind, being educated, trained, tested, whatever, can defend themselves with a shotgun, or rifle just fine. And it probably would make very little difference to the outcome, if I and the attacker both had handguns, as opposed to him having an illegal gun and I having a shotgun.
