Comment It's not just the "technologically advanced" bit (Score 2) 215

When there's a gas station every other mile and you have to struggle to find a charging station, it's difficult to make a case for convenience and reliability. But this is changing, particularly in smaller, more technologically advanced countries like Japan.

Japan doesn't have significant oil reserves from which it can produce its own gasoline. Whether it learned that lesson from World War II, or whether it sees the continuing political instability in the Middle East as a motivator - Japan is probably doing this because it's politically expedient rather than because it's cool tech.

Comment Funniest part of the review (Score 2) 120

It mentions in a couple places that the tablet ships with Android 4.4, and Dell hasn't said when it's getting 5.0. But they "have a feeling" Dell will be doing so soon!

Because companies have such a stellar track record of providing Android updates for released hardware...

There's no "probably" about it.

And that shadow account garbage was why I quit Facebook, for all the good it does. I have no illusions that they have any less of my data now than they did when I was a member... but at least I'm one fewer set of eyes to count as an impression on their auto-playing video ads.
