Sorry, that won't work either. The crust has lots of naturally occurring radioactive material in it. The deeper you go, the more stuff you find. A lot of the interior of the planet is kept warm by radioactive decay. And this is the ionizing stuff, not just EM. Plus, don't forget things like cosmic rays and neutrinos that can penetrate a great deal of solid matter. He also better not have ANY light sources whatsoever in this house. If he has so much as a light bulb then what he is claiming is false. Visible light is even higher frequency than his horrible 2.6 GHz wifi.

I have to agree here. The ONLY anti-malware type product I will allow on my Windows machine is Malwarebytes. Manual updates, manual everything. I run a scan once a week just to make sure I didn't catch a case of the stupids that week. Honestly, I don't even use noscript...adblock plus and flashblock take care of pretty much everything. I only run flash on sites I know...which these days consists almost entirely of youtube, homestar runner, and the WOW armory.

Comment Probiotics (Score 2, Interesting) 404

Probiotics are going to start being a LOT more useful than antibiotics. If you have a deadly bacteria, the best way to kill it is not to actually kill it with antibiotics (which generally kill everything that's not resistant to it), but kill it by flooding the system with beneficial bacteria that will compete with the harmful ones for resources and eventually starve them out. Antibiotics should only be reserved for cases where they are absolutely necessary, and a probiotic regimin should be prescribed after the antibiotics are done. Antibiotics also tend to kill a lot of beneficial bacteria, leaving a power vacuum where ANYTHING can take over very quickly after the antibiotics are done. Filling the hole with beneficial bacteria before anything else can get in is the best thing to do.

Indeed. I used Netflix 4 years ago or so for awhile (before they did streaming videos). I had thought recently about starting up my subscription again, especially when I heard about the streaming video service (when I saw Windows and Mac listed I figured it was decent). Then I read about it, found out it was Silverlight only, and dismissed my idea to use Netflix at all. I will continue to use bittorrent for my rentals. Hence, their decision to support Silverlight cost them a subscription.

I knew the Knight Foundation was real! Oh, how the kids in 4th grade used to tease me when I said I wanted to go work for them...

on KR it was called FLAG -- the Foundation For Law and Government. you misunderstanding that was why they teased you.

Actually, that's wrong. The Knight Foundation was founded by Wilton Knight, and did a variety of things. FLAG was just one particular group within the Knight Foundation, and that particular group was what Knight Rider focused on. This was made clear in the pilot episode.

Comment Re:Or parents... (Score 1) 355

Blizzard agrees with you. WOW is pretty much untouchable in this regard, because *they don't allow anyone under 18 to own an account*. For a minor to play, their parent/guardian must register an account in their name and (this is the one case in which Blizzard allows account sharing) the parent/guardian is allowed to share each account with 1 minor child. When they turn 18 there is a procedure to switch the account over to their name.

Comment Re:The iPhone is running windows? (Score 1) 137

MacOSX (and by extension the iphone OS) is based on FreeBSD. It's more or less a Mach version of the FreeBSD kernel, the closest comparison I can think of is mkLinux, except using the FreeBSD kernel instead. But your other points stand. The only reason to have "antivirus" running on any sort of *nix machine is to protect Windows machines by blocking Windows viruses at points like Samba and on email servers.
