Bradley Holt writes: "CouchDB, an Apache project, is a free/open source RESTful JSON document (NoSQL) database with map reduce views and peer-based replication. Version 1.0 is 300% faster than the previous version and includes Microsoft Windows support, an authentication system, and flexible replicator options. Several citizens from Burlington, Vermont have contacted Google about this for our city. Someone on the City Council has asked the mayor to approach Google, as well. We actually already have a municipal fiber-optic network, Burlington Telecom. However, they are currently experiencing financial troubles and the City is considering bringing in an outside investor or partner. Google, if you want to come here we've already got the fiber in the ground. Let's talk ;)

Bradley writes: "Based on my experience today, it appears that Google offers little or no customer service to their business customers. One of our clients had their Google Checkout account unjustly suspended this morning and we have not been able to get a response from customer service. This new release contains many new features including support for the new YouTube API, OpenID, Microsoft's InfoCard, LDAP authentication, Nirvanix media content and storage delivery support, a forms component, new layout and view enhancements, updated Lucene search engine, and extended AJAX support. It has also been announced that Zend Framework will be included in Ubuntu's Universe repository. From the announcement:

To be announced at today's D5 conference, the coffee-table-esqe device allows manipulation from multiple touch points, while infrared, WiFi and Bluetooth team up to allow wireless transfers between devices placed on top of it, such as cameras and cell phones. Expected to launch before the end of the year in the $5,000-$10,000 range, the devices might not make their way under many Christmas trees, but will find the insides of Starwood hotels, Harrah's casinos and T-Mobile shops."

"Jericho" Fans Send Over Nine Tons of Nuts to CBS 408

nuts-to-CBS writes "After presenting 'Jericho' fans with a cliffhanging season finale, CBS promptly cancelled the program. The shocked fans quickly banded together, many using CBS' own public "Jericho" discussion forum, and began brainstorming on ways to convince the network to bring back the show for a second season. A plot point in the final episode of "Jericho" involving the expletive "Nuts!" (in reference to an historic conversation between generals) was turned into a campaign to send large quantities of nuts to CBS' NY, LA, and affiliate offices. Fans have sent a total of $26,000 for a pooled campaign hosted at Nuts Online to ship over 19,000 pounds of peanuts to CBS. Other efforts acquired over $9,000 to publish full page advertisements in Variety (National Edition) and The Hollywood Reporter for Tuesday, May 29th. This is expected to become the largest ever fan campaign to bring a television show back from cancellation." There's more about the massive fan rollout below.

So, what happens if no one moderates my comments one way or the other? How do I ever pull myself out of the -1 scores? Seems to me that slashdot is a representation of the distribution of wealth. The rich keep getting richer and the poor keep getting poorer.
