Comment Re:Netware 3 (Score 2) 187

I doubt the drives were exactly 'up'. Spinning, yes.

I had a legacy Netware 3.11 server once upon a time... it was up for years and years, and by the time I got to the company it was like a legend. Eventually though there was a power outtage that outstripped the UPS system and required a re-start.

It wouldn't load. We sent the hard drives out to be recovered and they didn't actually exist anymore - the surface had been work away years before, and the server had been running purely in RAM.

Netware was awesome.

I concur. In 1995, my then employer had been running netware for quite few months on DX2 66Mhz for some time. It was running in 1999 when I left.

Comment Now, petitions will be eliminated (Score 1) 317

Earlier, petitions were set at 25,000 for the whitehouse to respond. It was raised to 100,000 since many people started petitions for useful things. Questions such as these, force the politicians to take a stand in serving the people or serving their corporate masters. So, next logical step would be to eliminate petitions altogether. Democracy thrives by one guy not knowing what the other thinks. That way, the govt has the full visibility to the citizens views, but citizens can't understand their neighbors views. Petitions like these force people to think about burning issues rather than thinking of Kim kardashian pregnancy. This is anathema to powers that be. Hence, eliminate petitions now!

Comment Why do you think Banks avoid Cloud like a Plague? (Score 1) 531

Follow the money trail. Do you see why Banks avoid storing data in Cloud? YES. Did you ask why? Because they knew this issue would arise. So, lesson is: Your local hard drive is FAR better than some invisible Cloud. Cloud is good for computing. Not for data. Data is local.

Seems damn useless. He just started playing them directly in Bing's search results. Blocked Bing, and google is available. Blocked Google, and suddenly found am helpless. Oh, and in addition, the same HOSTS file stuff does not work on iPhone or iPad. Password protected iPhone, and he broke it by watching me type in once. Used parental controls on iPad, and he went to settings to disable it. On the Galaxy S3 phone its worse. You change the password, he looks at the keyboard while you type. And retypes the exact same sequence next time. You use the face recognition on Galaxy S3, he shoves the phone in your face to unlock and runs away. You use pattern security, he uses the Emergency dial to call my landline and pester me unless i unlock. Amazingly, he doesn't spill liquids or treats the PC/Phone harsh. He treats them better than i do. I hate myself.

Comment Reacting instead of Acting. Apple is doomed (Score 1) 201

Apple is going to die a slow death. Steve was a visionary who set the standards that others have failed to match till now. He prized innovation and was a trailblazer, to hell with wallstreet and others. Now, Apple is being led by the B-class bureacrats that he hated SO far. These morons don't have fuckin clue. They are just paper pushers with an IQ of less than 70. These guys hate innovation as it disturbs their sedate lifestyle. Am sure we would see an exodus of engineers from Apple. That's when i will start dumping Apple stock.
