Whether he's right or wrong, he's thinking it'll help save the world. That's pretty noble if nothing else. Doing it for the good of everyone, and trying to earn a profit are not mutually exclusive.
Without the rich, we wouldn't have had amazing startups like Tesla. Elon Musk is gonna help save the world (or at least, massively advance the state of cars, rockets and maybe even global internet), and none of that would've happened without him earning millions from Paypal.
What you really should be fighting for is a universal income where everybody receives say £50 a week (even the rich), and it can grow from there. That's what you want without even realizing it.
"Grammar Nazi" springs to mind, especially as language evolves to support things like this. Apparently the Oxford dictionary allows it anyway.
I would have to say that a venture like this is (at least) a massive waste of time. For all its good, there are loads of problems, quirks, inconsistencies, and unnecessary complexities within the English language already. Nit picking a minor aspect such as this is like worrying about the quality of the window washer fluid you use for a car whilst ignoring the increasing amounts of rust underneath along with the 1mm tread on the tyres.
...which can be affected by cultural barriers and even dialects or accents to a lesser degree.
He's right. Like you, I'd feel we would lose a lot by eradicating other languages, but the amount we have to gain with the unification is SO much more important. I'm so sorry that the internet is helping us to get to that point quicker. C'est la vie.
If your antivirus software is as bloated McAfee or Norton, then I'll politely decline your offer. Nothing would have me massively slow down my PC for something approaching a placebo.
'Unfortunately', we also have a responsibility to ensure the safety of others, not just ourselves. When you drive your car, it's not just your life on the line.
For that very reason, as soon as self-driving cars reach a critical point of safety over normal drivers (perhaps at least 25% lives saved?), it's a GOOD idea to implement it ASAP. I like controlling cars too, but the roads are not for joyrides.
