Comment Not the bug... (Score 5, Informative) 1051

It wasn't really the bug that set Linus off. At least not in my reading of the post. It was Mauro's cavalier attitude toward the bug. He tried to shrug it off as a problem with pulseaudio, when it clearly was a bug that he had introduced.

I'm not a big fan of this style of management, but I can't fault any of the content of Linus' rant.

Whoever you clone, it'll still be twenty years before the clone is an adult. And by then, you'll be old. Or at least older. And different. And likely somebody who would have chosen differently, twenty years earlier.

The question is: who would you duplicate? As in, a fresh copy, indistinguishable from the original. Right now, ready to go, no waiting required.

The mind boggles.

Comcast wanted to triple the rate to go from minimal analog to the equivalent digital offering. We said, "No thanks," and disconnected completely. Even my ten-year-old son was on board with the decision.

We watch a few shows on Hulu, get movies from the local library, and don't miss standard television at all. Much much better.

Comment One of the great mysteries... (Score 4, Interesting) 409

I've been developing software professionally for over thirty years. Haven't had a job yet that hit the three-year mark. Half the companies I've worked for no longer exist.

How any particular job will end is always a source of speculation and amusement. Got a great contract now, which could go fairly long term. We'll see.
