The price of fuel is just one part of the costs of running a vehicle.
Maybe you don't have road tax in your locality but for me the difference between my current 1 litre car and my old 1.6 litre car is about â400 a year, The car insurance around another â200 and there is a fuel saving of around 10-20% thats maybe another â500 Then there is depreciation which is hard to quantify but generally economical cars hold value better than ones that cost more to run.

It's clear to me that choosing a small car to run has saved me money, maybe in a few years an electric car will be an option for me. Typically I drive 30 miles a day so an old electric car with a weak and expensive to replace battery pack maybe ideal.

motorcycles in the UK are allowed to make thier own lane. That said you should always proceed with caution, I would guess i'd have been doing 10 - 15mph tops filtering through. There is no need for speed in that kind of traffic.

You see a lot of novices who burn away from the lights to be sat at the next red for a minute while you casually saunter up and sit beside them. There are actually some pretty good traffic engineers who time the lights so they go green as you approach them if your travelling at a sensible speed if you go faster you meet another red light.

Another pet peev of mine is drivers who will enter a junction and can't clear it blocking traffic entering from another direction and causing traffic to back up further than it would if they had just waited a while. It's noticably different driving in the UK and driving in Ireland in the UK drivers tend to follow the rules of the road to a greater extent than in Ireland. Irish drivers tend to block junctions more often than not and if everyones doing it then you end up having to do the same, although to be fair the timings tend to be less well thought out than in the UK. Although in Ireland you may get let out of a minor road sooner than you would in the UK.
Another difference is in driver ability and training, Ireland has a lot of provisional driving licence holders who have driven for years without ever having taken a test. The situation is improving in recent years but there is still a tollerance that you wouldn't get in the UK.

The link in the summary is full of people who used dropbox to share content with customers who now get a 404 or 403 instead.

It's understandable that they use dropbox this way, e.g new promotional leaflet on garage doors upload it to dropbox and share the link, simple anyone can do it.

Alternative options could be run a website with a cms system, require everyone to learn how to use it, make users create an account so they can access the content. not to mention you need a more powerful server to serve that content to more than a handful of people.
A lot of content management systems incorperate dropbox or similar to serve relatively large files so the server isn't being stressed with serving that content.

This fix has just created a major problem for a lot of organisations. A lot of files are not really private information just easier to serve with a simple system like dropbox, well it was till this 'fix' happened.

There are very few "accidents" just people taking stupid risks. Maintain a safe distance, ie enough manouvering room so you don't join an accident, don't overtake when you can't see the end of the manouvere e.g going up hill or on a bend. Stop when necessary. Procede with caution sometimes you might want to turn off the radio open a window and listen. Use your indicators. Drive within your lights or as conditions allow. Don't be an asshole.

Sometimes you will come across assholes on the road it is best to give them a wide birth even stop and pull over in order to get them out of your way, but don't dawdle if you want or need to drive slow make opportunities for people to overtake.

Bad planning and poor judgement are the most common causes of accidents which is why schools have low speed limits around them as kids can be stupid around roads.

Be helpful, I remember one time I was filtering down the centre line on a motorbike (dispatch rider) past stationary traffic and a taxi driver stuck his hand out. I braked and a pushchair popped out from between the stationary traffic. Without that warning I could have killed a toddler as it was no harm was done and I don't think the mother was ever aware of the danger.

One thing about london traffic professional drivers work the streets most of the day and they are very road aware. The most dangerous times are when schools start and when schools let out, followed by the rush hours when the non professionals are on the road.

Just because it is hard to decrypt an encoded block by brute force does not mean it is hard to encrypt and decrypt with a given key set.

Can you clarify this for me? A quick google of htc and samsung show that they also make phones with Microsoft s phone operating systems. I expect there are more manufacturers who are not exclusively android when it comes to smart phones.

Submission + - Arkansas Tornado Coverage with Drone Camera Raises Legal Questions (forbes.com)

retroworks writes: In the latest tornado and storm tragedy to hit the USA's south and midwest, small drone cameras steered by storm-tracker and videographer Brian Emfinger gathered stunning bird's-eye footage of the wreckage. Forbes magazine covers the [paywalled] Arkansas Democrat-Gazette's speculation that Emfinger has violated FAA rules which prohibit commercial use of small drones. The laws, designed years ago to restrict hobbyists use of model airplanes, may conflict with USA First Amendment free press use. So far, nothing in the article says that the FAA is enforcing the rule on the media outlets that may pay Emfinger for his video coverage, but interest in the footage will probably create a business economy for future commercial drone use if the FAA does not act.

Submission + - iPhone factory reset strikes dead forensic investigations (theregister.co.uk) 1

mask.of.sanity writes: Felons wanting to thwart forensic investigators need only perform a factory reset of any current model iPhone including the 4s, 5c and 5s.
Apple's decision to encrypt data on the iPhone is responsible for this state of affairs because a factory reset not only wipes data but also erases the decryption key required to reveal the handset's contents. Forensic investigators will need to wait until the release of a jailbreak for the devices in order to image the phones.

How does that compare with your bills?

The one thing that is of interest is there is an app for potholes! Over winter here in Ireland potholes are a major problem, it seems they only get fixed in spring. unfortunately the pothole app isn't available here or you could bet there would be a lot of people running it. Although realistically the council would still go patching in spring regardless.

If people know about the pothole app it will get installed where ever its available potholes damage all cars. If affluent area's are getting potholes fixed sooner that sounds more like a political choice rather than lack of data. It is a poor example of how smartphone data can be used. However it doesn't change the fact that some commercial companies can use the data to target certain markets. you generally would be wasting money targeting say double glazing to people who rent their homes but you might target over priced short term loans to that market instead.

Daytime TV adverts are an interesting area to observe. Full of adverts for accident compensation solicitors and over 50's life cover. Pretty obvious who they are targeting.

Its not like we would have to invent things more reimpliment the things that already have existed in one form or another.

While i happen to have a plc that would run off 12 volts. its basically relay logic anyway so scavange from a few cars and i can automate from that basis. probably the two most important things needed are electricity and refridgearation. computers would be one of the best accelerators of recovery.
