I've never been able to accept the oft-cited studies claiming that hands free is no safer than using the phone directly while driving. I'm embarrassed that I never considered a common cause between accidents during hands-free and hands-on calls that is unrelated to the call.

In any case, IN YOUR FACE commenters who cited the older studies!

Slashdot is a US site. Yes, it has users from around the world, and it's great to have you all here. But bar aren't commonly used in the US and, therefore, are not relatable units in context.

We must be reading different news sites. I've seen stuff about Android apps sending GPS data, and even contacts. The "counter point" article I saw on iPhone says that two thirds of apps send the unique device ID to the server.

Now, I don't love that it sends this, but it really is an entirely different class of problem.

I can't imagine the reading of my post that left you thinking that I needed this explained to me. I'm not suggesting that people not vote this way because I don't understand their reasons, I'm doing it because it is a ruinous "solution" to the problem.
