Submission + - LOLCODE: scripting code for a new generation

Tumbleweed writes: " LOLCODE is a new scripting language being designed to more closely match current trends in language grammar and syntax; LOLCODE will likely appeal to a new generation of web coders.

LOLCODE features keywords like these: can-has, gimmeh, hai, i-has-a, im-in-yr, im-outta-yr, kthxbye and

Submission + - Is Your Date of Death Too Much Information?

An anonymous reader writes: I came across a Google gadget, Life Clock, that tells you when you will die and counts down the years, months, days, minutes and seconds until your demise. I find it strangely motivating to see my life trickling away each time I see me home page. Would you want to know your time of death, or is it better not to know?

Submission + - Trent Reznor rails against music price gouging.

Delusion_ writes: "Zeropaid has an interesting article which reports that Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails has been speaking out on his blog against price gouging practices of record labels, including his own, while on tour in Australia, where some retailers are selling his new album, Year Zero, for $29 USD.

...to the question of illegally downloading music, to which he answered "...I steal music too, I'm not gonna say I don't."...

...He goes on to say that sure he resents people getting his stuff for free but, unlike most other artists it seems he knows who's actually to blame for the whole file-sharing mess — record labels. He says that "... you got record labels that are doing everything they can to piss people off and rip them off."

The climbing price of CDs has already cost many music retailers to throw in the towel, especially stores catering to specific styles of music. Music piracy is usually blamed for the shift, but the fact that the RIAA has been fighting used CD sales tooth and nail, and that the average CD price has increased significantly despite the fact that media production costs have decreased since the early 1990s isn't usually credited when music retailers go out of business."

Submission + - Google to help you plan the perfect day

An anonymous reader writes: Discussing plans to increase user tracking, Google CEO Eric Schmidt complains to the Financial Times that that company "cannot even answer the most basic questions because we don't know enough about you. That is the most important aspect of Google's expansion." According to Schmidt, the company's "goal is to enable Google users to be able to ask the question such as 'What shall I do tomorrow?' and 'What job shall I take?'" Thank Uni!

Submission + - Trent Reznor Vs the Music Labels

eldavojohn writes: "While it may not seem pertinent to Slashdot, Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, had a frank interview in which he described his pained relationship with his label and record label executives. Reznor complained about his band's latest album, Year Zero, that hasn't sold too well but is still on everyone's iPod. Reznor explains that he asked an executive why the album cost (AUS) $10 more than any other album and got a reply that his fans are loyal so the label knows they'll buy anything at any price. You can imagine that Reznor's reply was not a happy one. One of the more interesting quotes involves Reznor explaining how he would like to release his next album, "If I could do what I want right now, I would put out my next album, you could download it from my site at as high a bit-rate as you want, pay $4 through PayPal." Reminds me of what Stephen King tried years ago. Trent Reznor's interview is an interesting tale from someone on the other side of the RIAA war machine."
